An idea for the sound player: When it's playing the last 10% of a sound, and loop is enabled, have it precache or preload the start of the sound again, so it can loop without any gap.
That would greatly help anyone who uses the loop player functionality. They could stay in time, they could compose to the raw sound coming from their browser instead of having to download and arrange loops, etc.
Once the tag suggestion menu appears, it cannot be dismissed. It blocks the description field completely. Bad bad bad.
EDIT: I got it to disappear just now, but I'm not sure how. It should really only show tag suggestions when the tags field has mouse focus.
EDIT 2: It seems to be an intermittent issue. I described more sounds and the tag menu worked exactly as it should. Maybe it was a fluke that first time. I remember I had entered a lot of tags and the system had run out of suggestions. At that time, I ended up trying both mouse and keyboard, and the menu remained open. I'll post again with the method to reproduce this, if I am able to find it.
In the description-field of the new UI, the return key has no effect. [ I'm using FireFox on Windows ].
On the old UI pressing return or enter keys would move on to a new line of text.
[ A workaround to preserve formatting is to copy & paste the text from notepad or word-processor into the description-field ].
BTW these vertical rows of stars don't look right ...
I thought I'd got the wrong site when I first came back, I had to check my password manager to check.
Glad to see the new paint-job.
Yeah it would be really nice if each comment had a specific reply button keyed to that user so they'd get notified by email when you replied to them.
Or, the reply button could autoload the PM dialog with their name filled in and then fill the subject with something like "Reply to your comment on freesound #42069". Have it quote them as well. This option doesn't require you to program any new notification type or setting so it's probably easier to do.

Uncheck "Allow simultaneous audio playback" in your Freesound account settings.
Also you can do alt+click in the play button of a sound player to play that sound and stop all other sounds currently being played.

This sounds like a bug, I'll look into it. Also the ratings row shown as a column although I've not been able to reproduce this one so far.

This idea has been in our list for a while (see https://github.com/MTG/freesound/issues/1425). I think it will be implemented at some point (also specially because some people has asked for it) but I don't know when. Now that the new UI is in place we can start looking at these things so hopefully in the near future. I think that some implementation like what @strangehorizon is mentioning is what we would end up doing, so more like "mentions with notification".
Quick update: I just released a number of fixes, including (among others) the vertical stars in sound sources section (in fact the starts should not be shown there), and the enter key in sound description form.
Love the new UI! It was a nice to surprise to see this site suddenly looking so modern.
Regardless of whether people think the website is better or worse, abandoning it will not make it even better. We all have to put in some work to make Freesound as good as it can be. More contributions, higher quality contributions, more discussions/challenges/remix projects/etc. here on the forums, more fun, more good times. Freesound's importance and quality as a resource greatly outclasses any possible web layout, good or bad. Whether you like the layout or not, this is still the place to be for free and interesting audio.
If we just up and abandon it, we will be making it worse, and we will become part of the problem we once complained about. The userbase will shrink, uploads will slow down, the forums will become quiet. I don't want to see that happen so I'm staying.

processing queue seems slow with new uploads.
About 25 minutes.

I'm happy you ask about this one because this is really not related to the new UI
There was probably some random error that left one of your sounds in the processing queue. It would have been auto-fixed after some hours, but I already re-processed it and it should have worked.
I was getting that issue too. I'll see if it happens again next time I upload a batch.
EDIT: Yup!
Hi again,
You guys are right and I did now observe some strange behaviour in the processing queue in which sounds might not be getting processed right after upload time but only in a second phase (maybe a couple of hours later) when our system detects they have not been yer processed. I'll investigate.
Hi! In general I don't mind the new user interface, but it feels uncomfortably spacious. Is there a way to add a feature of "condensing" the list of sounds? Sometimes i'd like to have it as a list where I can look at everything instead of scrolling and turning pages.
Hi, you can try the "grid mode" you'll find in the advanced search panel of the search page. That should help you

I found a bug when sounds were processed for the first time and fixed it (that is why sounds were not being processed right after upload but they could be manually reprocessed and it worked). I hope it does not happen anymore. It is quite strange that we only noticed about this now because it does not seem to be related with the UI change... but who knows!
