Almost nobody likes it and we're still not gonna like it after years of updates.
Screwing something up and then promising to fix it later is an awful and juvenile way to make decisions. It's equivalent to a friend stealing from you or insulting you publicly, being fully aware it's rude, doing nothing at the time, and then trying to patch it up months later. Too little, too late.
They talk of adding new features but usability itself is a feature and it has been fundamentally altered to such an extent that it is half destroyed.
They know these things and don't care. My sincere suggestion is to find something else that makes you happier than this place. It worked for me.
i haate the new ui, its another example of fixing what isn't broken. just like the Wikipedia making Vector 2022 the default UI Theme which is LESS useful and at least to me, harder to navigate since i can't see all the information i need to see like buttons all that all at once.
at least Wikipedia has the legacy, and legacy adjacent ui themes available (but its behind a login screen and account settings.)
maybe Freesound could do the same, except not require an account to change it.
I like it,
the old one looks like this site was abandoned in 2005.
I'm not often on this site, but I'd bet that most users are here once in a while, and it's easier for casuals like me to navigate with the new UI, the only thing I don't really like is that hyper links are red (because red on black is harder to read than blue on white), other than that literally everything else is better, tags are easier to read and browse, interacting with sounds is more intuitive, the overall experience is more pleasant.
(I even looked for a way to turn the new UI on because for some reason the old UI loaded )
I don't like
That old UI loaded on the website, not the new UI and I had to look for a way to turn it on.
Only thing I'd actually add/change is an ability to have a light version of the UI that's not just the old version. It's easier to read dark text on light background, that would be nice for power users and for visually impaired people.
I think it's ok. Not the best but that what you would expect for a website for free sounds.

Honestly like the new UI, especially the built-in dark mode I previously had to use an extension for.
I feel like they should stylize it more and make it look more unique, because it looks like Generic Ass Website Number 242942. But I would say, it's definitely an improvement! As someone else said, the old UI made it look like the website was abandoned in 2005.
They haven't removed any features by adding the new UI as far as I can tell, and it's surprisingly just as snappy as the old UI. They appear to be using Bootstrap with ordinary HTML and JavaScript, so the website isn't bloated with large CSS and javascript runtimes like most other websites.
