Hi there,
Not sure if this is the right place, but I've had a quick look at Freesoun 2 Beta, and I thought I'd give you some feedback.
I think it's good; I particularly like it that the pack links now work, and that there is now a simple upload form.
One question. Will it be possible for us to access files we have downloaded, same as we do now, and will the current data be transferred over to FS2 in September?
I think this is good not just for attribution, but also so I can recover previously downloaded files if necessary.
Thanks.
Hi,
Will it be possible for us to access files we have downloaded, same as we do now
Yes, here it is:

will the current data be transferred over to FS2 in September?
Absolutely. The only thing people should mind about is that all new data created on the test site will be discarded when we do this.

Hi hardworking Freesound Ops.
Can we make this thread sticky so we can gather all our F2 thoughts in one place? Or is there already a feedback place for this?
One question: Will downloads from FS2 be colated with the main database at "Live Time", even if other data is deleted?
One (slight) disappointment: I can't figure out how to give a sample four and a half stars. The diffeernce between 1 and 2 stars is neither here nor there, but the difference between 4 and 5 will leave me fretting to the point that I will start contemplating suicide as a way out my dither.
One comment: I love the new site and the extra info it offers, but to my mind it's heavy on screen real estate. The amount of information I can see on screen at one time is drastically reduced compared to FS1 resulting in a whole load more clicking and scrolling than I like. Would like to see less avatar and padding and smaller headline texts in some places, or perhaps a "compact" skin option (alternate CSS). The modern trend is towards more content per page (Chrome, IE9, Firefox).
One suggestion: I would like to see a search option to rank by downloads per week(or month, or other unit of time) It would be more useful than total number of downloads because it would flatten the playing field between samples uploaded in 1995 and those uploaded in January 2011 say.
Anyway, well done guys, I can see a whole lot of love, time and dedication has gone into FS2. Thank You!
Wibby
Hi. Thanks for the feedback. We generally prefer to receive it through the email in the banner on the beta site. With respect to your questions: the data about downloads in the beta site during this period will be discarded as well. We'll consider the other suggestions, however our current priority is fixing bugs for the release!

some good points above -
something like a narrow view option? ( so we can scan more names [er page or less scrolling,, and get more story if we interested.... expanding a triangle on ones your interested in...
a volume control would be great! how about a duration bar - or can just click on the wave form to jump to a point in the sound..
like the new licensing options.. I went for open buffet...
( sorry my email account isn't on my audio computer )

Sorry, have only just seen this as haven't been back to the thread for a few days.
Thank you for that reply.
So some feedback from me regarding FS2. I think that the older way of handeling comments where much better. Now when you switch comment page the sound stops playing. Not a big issue I know, but it would be nicer if one could continue to read the comments while listening to the sound.
The new update works great, i can't get my hands down!!
However, i kinda miss a "preview" button both when posting on the messageboard, and in the private message area.
Another thing i've been thinking about; would it be possible to not only commit a sound to one pack, but some sort of multible attachment. It's not always that a sound belongs in only one pack, so that would be a nice feature.
Again, i really like the new looks and feel of freesound
Quote kyster:However, i kinda miss a "preview" button both when posting on the messageboard, and in the private message area.
Agreed,i have to double the page up to refer to the poster i'm replying to!
Quote microscopia:First impressions are that functionality is greatly improved for the benefit of bulk-downloading users, but at the expense of that for contributors!
This is also my impression,FS2 is heavily tilted towards downloaders where there are numerous improvements (search options, tag clouds etc)but thin on improvements for uploaders and missing some key features that were essential in my enjoyment of the old version.
For example the latest comments list was a great source of feedback on what other ears were picking up on aswell as a source to countless sounds i had otherwise missed. Now the only comments i find easily are ones left on my own sounds.....not good.
There's more but i'm thinking the ease of the new code makes it possible to make additions and adjustments quickly,so i'll wait and see!
On a positive note the playback player is brilliant, higher sound quality and the spectogram is a really useful, instructive addition...
Guys, where were your comments the 2 months that the beta was online, aiiii?
That said, give us some time while we add more features and fix bugs. Soon we will do a request for improvements...
To me personally this version is a VAST improvement over the previous. To me, the previous website was really suffocating (too much data on too few pixels). But the MOST important bit is that the code behind freesound is now SO much cleaner and more people are involved in it.
We didn't change anything in fs1 over the last 4 years because it had basically become... impossible to do so. Give us some time to make stuff better - give us the benefit of the doubt please!
thx,
- Bram
And FYI, things like "latest comments list" are now VERY easy to add where previously it would have been a nightmare to add such a small feature!
The next few weeks will all be about bugfixing, and adding VERY smal features.
But please guys, keep an eye on the forum and "requests for comments/ideas/..." and when you see them, REPLY and speak up!!!!!!
- bram
Haha, sorry for the multiple posts, ... last addition: Microscopia, file deletion is really the NEXT feature we want to add. It's actually not such an easy feature, but we already had it implemented - but in a bad way. Deleting a file means a lot of things: what if there were remixes, for example?
"User deleting self" is also a feature we very badly need!
A least you can now already rename your own files, something which was also very much requested.

Sorry, and don't misunderstand me. I'm very pleased by the way the new freesound looks and feels
I just didn't think about it two months ago, but the point is taken.
That said, i hope the suggestions are manageable and not a total shot in the dark. And nobody expects them to be executed before they're ready Better have a great place like this, rather than a bloated site.
Bram,i'm sorry if i sounded ungrateful 'cos that's not right.....this is THE place and it's a great new start.
The central issue of effective access in searching the database and listening to the files has been well taken care of,providing a good solid foundation to build on
So it's just some small things that prolong the time and enjoyment in being here...a list or two helps give focus to what's going on...the attention to details adds support to the the central theme.
I have no doubt that the launch of fs2 will prove to be an allround success.
.....Steady as she goes freesound!
Ah, well done. I like the site. Only problem is, I can't upload here! The beta upload was accessible, but this one appears to be strange. Can you put together some sort of accessible uploader? I have well over like 46 files to upload. Haha. Thanks guys!
To a certain extent I can use the current one, though I have no option but to upload files individually. And I do have the latest version of adobe. The thing is, it only works under internet explorer. And to answer your second question, I am actually running windows 7.
strange... we did make some small changes to the uploader, but nothing should have changed...
did u ever try uploading on beta.freesound.org before?
try clearing your cache?
a different browser?
