I never liked the fact that people are too lazy (or whatever reason it is) to rate the files they downloaded.
Now I had an idea popping up in my mind: Why dont't the people who approve the uploaded files make the first rating? If you could implement the rating feature into your approval-administration-panel-thingy (whatsoever you may use... ), it wouldn't even slow down the process - a click doesn't cost that much time. Just the first impression, no long considerations and deliberations.
Maybe people just don't want to be the first to rate a sample, so that would make it easier for them.
The file admins should be adept enough, and they have to listen to the entire sample anyway, I guess.

(who rates every sample he downloads if he's not too rattled... )
I like the sound of this idea. However it ain't very fair that you got the chance to vote high on your own samples. And the reason is because if they can, they'll propably will do that. So limit the first vote between 3 and 7. Maybe it's my swedish heritage that makes a reminder here, but for me it would be better if you could vote neither high nor low would be the most fair way to do it. I'm not any admin what so ever, but that's just my simple thought here.
:quick edit:
And while we're at voting I'd love to see not just the overall vote, but also votes for quality, idea, length etc. The reason is because then you could get a much more full rate of the sound. And just to clearify this right now: I vote for the samples I LIKE, and if I find use for it.
I don't think that admins would rate their own samples high... If you can't trust them in that issue, maybe they don't deserve to be in an administrative position... And of course you could prevent this: I don't realy know, but I guess that there's something like an administration panel to review the sounds, where every admin logs in with his user name. Then you should disable rating for sounds that this admin uploaded himself.
another click = annoying.
it's already a LOT of work to moderate.
we MIGHT have a "favorite" function where the admins can choose their favorites and those samples are "featured" automatically...
also, we have a not-talked-about feature called "whitelisting": people who we are sure always correctly describe their sounds and never break the law are whitelisted. Users whose samples are whitelisted don't pass the admin stage.
