Oh my gosh that would be awesome that way we don't have to click sounds before downloading. The only thing I see bad about is this, u wont be able to read the description and some user like me say restrictions for sounds that are Attribution licenses, like how to credit them and also what things they don't want users to use it for.
Maybe but also some users have random names for there sounds and the only way u know the sound is by reading the description. Either way I am not a moderator so were going to have see what they say, they usually have better reasons why it probably wouldn't be a good feature or they may agree, either way they can actually put the feature into effect. So I guess my opinion isn't really important. I will try to contact a moderator for u to see what he says.
Ok the moderator don't like being bugged about features. So I guess your going to have to wait till one actually responds.
Then u didn't understand me in PM because I said we wanted another opinion. Well, so your also saying we will never get a message from a person that works on the site?
I think I put up this request before, but it did not see any movement (in terms of popularity).
I'd love to have a download button. Regarding the sample type and all that, the info is already displayed on the right sidebar.
But if the descriptions sometimes are necessary, it would be nice to have them pop up (javascript tooltip) as one hovers over the suggested download button.
Maybe but that could get annoying.

True and now that I say it being annoying, it would have more plus than negative.
I speak on behalf of myself when making this statement:
I don't agree with this feature request. It removes the process of navigating to the sound page, where important defined information about the license is held. It also deflects the attention of the user away from the sound page where a comment would be appreciated. Although it may seem more convenient, it is generally a bad idea. I think people are getting rather impatient these days.
This is my opinion.
Know that u put it that way I agree, sorry on this one, I would say 80%-ish requests aren't accepted.

Am I, as a user who just wants to download a sound, going to read anything pertinent to the licensing and stuff even if I navigated to the page?
Again, I think the pertinent information should pop us as a tooltip, and maybe someone could do the coding (OK, I know this is where you will be like "eff this"...) to include the "please leave a comment!" module within the tooltip. Coding horror, I know.
Anyway, I think we are increasingly moving towards a world that is impatient. Something like this would definitely see an increase in the number of downloads (which I think is desirable). Sometimes I even think that mandating registration prior to downloading be eradicated (although I can definitely see the upside of not getting rid of that).
Of course, I can already see some people totin' their guns at me now.
I still don't think it is a good enough feature to add to Freesound and u could say I would be the guy shoving a gun in your mouth before shooting, lol, joking
After reading all these informative posts, I am now neutral about the download button. I think it would probably have as many pros as it would cons. Though, if it was a simple, quick and easy feature to implement, it would probably be worth it.

It is indeed none of the above.
However, speaking on a purely selfish level, not having that button is exactly why (if you go to view downloads by my username), there haven't been any in the past many months. Often times, I will come across sounds that I love and want to download (while I am going through the search page), but I simply won't download because of having to navigate to a new page, then going back and continuing my search for other sounds. It is more cumbersome this way. Even when I download a sound, all I pay attention to is the type of license and the user who uploaded it. If there's any emboldened stuff, I'll read through it, otherwise all I'm doing is hitting the download button. Given that the username, sound name and license-types are already made available on the search page, for people like me, the added download button would be really helpful.
[On a side note, one could argue that when I'm searching for sounds I could just put them all in a certain bookmark category, and that'd be nice if I were given the option to download all sounds in that particular bookmark category (last I checked this functionality was either unavailable or I wasn't able to find it)].
Also on the technical side, there are two more things to contend with:
1) When we browse sounds (and navigate to the individual sound's page), there's this whole "cache" related problem. Each time I come across a new sound, the whole page has to be loaded since, well, every different sound has different page contents (the waveform image, description, etc). I haven't checked this, but this probably increases my freesound.org cache size, but more importantly, the load time for each page is higher.
2) Couple that with lower internet speeds (I suffer from that right now), the desirability of navigating to individual sound pages is even less, because it all adds to the impatience (and eventually frustration).
Please don't take this as a rant or bad-mouthing; just some thoughts on this topic!
And one last thing:
I may be totally wrong on this one, but another thing to do would be to automatically enable a download button on the Public Domain sounds on the search page. For all other sound types, give the user an option when he/she uploads a sound, something like: "Check here to make your sound available for download directly from the search page."
This, I think, could be accomplished in as few as 2-3 lines of code.
