Ok I know I have requested a lot features while on Freesound but I think this one may actually get peoples attention.
I request we make a new section in the Sound tab, since we already got a "Latest sounds" and "Most downloaded sounds (uploaded in the last week)", how about we add a "Top Rated Sounds(Of the week) or "Top Rated Sounds(Uploaded in the last week)"
The main reason why I think we should add this section:
1. It will help users find some of the Most Rated sounds upload that week or just rated in general of the week.
2. It will probably give users a bigger reason to check out the Sound Tab
3. If a really good sound gets rated a lot and then someone cant find it for some reason and he is think of requesting it, then he notices it in the Top Rated Sounds Section. Which would save time for him and for other users that would probably just send him a link to it.
There are probably more reasons why but I can't think of them at the moment.
Support would be really appreciated and I hope other people can come up with some more reasons. Lets try to get this apart of Freesound!!!!!!!
Hi, 18hiltc. Not a bad idea. I perceive some mileage in it.
I mulled over the suggestion for a while and, unfortunately, ran into a brick wall. Perhaps if I play Devil's Advocate you'll see where my feeble brain came to a screeching halt.
If this were to be a fair and accurate appreciation index, the sounds would have to be rated. All of them, no exceptions. In itself, that might not be bad idea but, as mentioned in another thread here (I think it was 'Who rated my sound'), it creates an opportunity for mischief.
Say, for instance, that I wish my sounds to appear as if they're rated higher than yours. No problem: I simply set up multiple accounts (obviously via VPN) and wage war on your ratings by giving all your sounds a miserly 1 star. After that, I get onto the job of setting up all of my sounds with a glorious 5 star rating.
Realistically, the scenario that I outline above is moderately far-fetched. In practice, it would require a large number of bogus accounts to swing the ratings. However, when multiplied by several persons acting in concert you might end up with a serious Denial Of Ratings attack.
Whatcha think, bro? Is it possible to crank out a system spec that adequately provides fairness and accuracy in the ratings?
I see where you are coming at but I don't see why you would "Have" to rate, I am just saying that you should have the chose but the ones that do it rated the most do get posted(I think it would be better to have the sounds from the past and present). Usually the older the sound the more rates it will get over time but that isn't always true if the sound is really good and gets a lot of ratings right away.
I doubt anything I could say would change the situation and I understand, there is always something that I have overlooked :/
Hey, man. Thanks for your thoughts. I like the notion that choosing whether or not to rate a sound would remain optional. I can live with that.
As for tackling people's urges to be naughty, it's a technological question awaiting a social answer and not the other way around. But, before I get all hippie-trousers and karma obsessed on your ass, might I reassure you that I favour your site suggestion? I see on many d/l sites that it's not out of the ordinary to see 'Most Viewed' and 'Highest Rated' at the top of page.
That's me done. I'm outta here. Molto gracias for the chat.
Thanks for the criticism and nice talking to you to.
