so recently i've had comments on a particular sound of mine i uploaded recently (i have since deleted it) essentially saying that the sound acted like a virus (and even thinking that it actually was a virus, with good reason). Here's what the users said, essentially: the sound wouldn't delete from computer (just mine, the other files were normal), the computer would freeze, crash or lag like hell when the user attempted to delete the file, and, after attempting to delete the file all video and audio files would not play. These issues apparently occurred after the users attempted to delete the file, not at the actual download. one user deleted the sound through the use of an antivirus software; after the deleting there were not more issues. another dude apparently "erased my pc" to fix it (from a PM).
now, i have no idea what is wrong with the file and why it was causing the issues, so of course i deleted it. what im wondering is why that particular sound was the culprit; i have more than 300 other sounds uploaded, nearly all of which produced using the same methods (including the culprit sound): make sound and add effects in flstudio, record audio using edison or some other .wav recorder, or have flstudio do an extract of the audio, and thats the end of it. the resulting .wav doesn't even get transferred to another website or weird location on my PC; its just moved to where the other audio files are within C: and then uploaded from there to freesound. so no shady stuff there. i know my computer is clean, i have antivirus software that works beautifully. the basic question is, why was just that one sound apparently corrupted and no other?
an explanation i can think of: the file was not virused, and its just windows being windows. (filesize too big causing memory issues, who knows). this is plausible because......windows.
in general, a concern i have is that users would be able to upload virused audio files into the database. im wondering if there exists some sort of security tool that is built into the website to scan for virused files. a file like mine shouldn't be floating around like that.
sorry for the trouble for those who have had issues with the sound!
my question to you guys: have you ever had bugged audio files like mine? what about the security thing i mentioned?
Did a bit of research and found this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/418850/can-flv-or-mp4-be-infected-with-virus/
Thanks for the link! It is very informative. I suppose I could have been browsing a malicious site during the upload process of that particular sound. That's weird because I go to a lot of different sites all the time fairly regularly, so I guess I could've gotton unlucky. None of the quotes discuss the infection of .wav files tho.
