I think on every users profile and under their user name in comments and forum posts I think we should have the option to report them if there out a line or spamming. And then be given choices of what we are reporting them for.
I knew you would.
Noticed that some comments seem cruel just for the sake of being cruel. I guess that's trolling? Anyway you have my vote too. The only thing I would worry about is that some people may give false reports which could eventually lead to someones account being terminated.

well im guessing an admin or someone similar would look at the reported user and decide for themselves before terminating their account.
Yeah like if someone gets reported for nothing or just something just very stupid they won't get instantly punished if at all since it might not be worth punishment and it should be given strict thought before any person should get punished. And even if someone does something not to serious but serious enough to get punished maybe they should only be not allowed to log in for a few days or weeks.
@Kodack - I think you may be onto something.
@18hiltc - Suspension makes sense. I would hope there would be warnings too just in case the person didn't mean to say or do anything out of line. But like I said, I support the idea.
I love it that this feature is getting support but how many people have to want it before it becomes a actual feature?

hmm i dont know, i have a feeling the people who are in charge of that kind of thing don't even check the forums all that much maybe if the thread has got more popular someone could try sending a message to the admins so they could look at the thread
If that's the case we might have to do so.
I misread the OP, then (was a little flummoxed at that moment, my fault).
I would like there to be a way to just mute/block a user here on the forums. The user is seen by everyone else, but if I block the user, I do not want to either see or be notified of unread messages by that user.
I agree but I think you should still be allowed to see the posts by the "blocked" user and still receive messages from them just in case of a favor or something important.
Its fine, I am youngish but I am glad you said that even if I didn't take much from it.
More or less a big thing we have a against each other, mainly why I said the third comment.
EDIT: Its happening both ways.

I don't second it.If a user is spamming, either by pm or in forum posts, aren't there already enough measures in place for this behaviour? As far as I can see in my experience these occurences of spam are quite rare, although I don't see it from the inside, nor the work the mods do to prevent it.
Other measures. Beneath every sound we already have this: "Sound illegal or offensive? Flag it!" Do we also need character references too? What exactly do you mean by "out of line"? I've been out of line on at least two occasions on these forums and that by my own admission, and personal shame. As a rational and imperfect human being I always try to resolve problems in a friendly manner and by admitting my mistakes and offering my apologies.
I don't think black marks on a persons account/username are helpful - if it came to that. Personally I think this could lead to a time consumming nightmare for already stretched admins and mods taking up even more valuable sound and post moderation time. Jesus, less control freakery, Please! And less use of the word "punished". Something that should only be administered and accepted by consent, because it solves nothing in any other sense.
Too many rules and laws only lead to more tyranny. Don't turn freesound into Government.
You make sense, but you have to also realise that everything is the admin's decision, if they want to do it then they will do it, it's their decision if it's a good idea or not, ofcourse they won't do it if they think it's not a good idea correct?

It's not just that. Do they have the time? Do they have the necessary skill (although I doubt they don't) to not mess up other parts of the site by implementing this? What are the probable consequences. There's a difference between a good idea and a feasible idea. Unless, of course, you mentioning it was a "good" idea took the feasibility into account.
yeah thats what i meant
