Hi freesound technitions,
This looks strange.

You can see that one downloader is on the list many times. That is not as it was.
Hope you understand.

Huh, perhaps yesterday's maintenance introduced a new bug? I went ahead and tried downloading a sound and it only did it once for me.
Is it perhaps affecting new users that were created since the maintenance?

it`s maybe caused by the latest update of ios (ios 11.0.1),
it`s in that time when i updated the problem started.
Tried by my PC and there is no problem for the counterbest regards

That might be it - I downloaded from a PC and it only did it once. Are there any other ios users out there that can also test this out to confirm that is the cause?
It’s beeing worse,take a look at

Hi,
This is not a bug but an intentional change we added last week. Before we only recorded the first time a sound was downloaded by a particular user, now we record every download. We did not expect these cases in which a single user downloads so many times a specific sound. This change is revealing some unwanted behaviour that we will investigate. If the problem happens often one option is to record all downloads but group those of the same user/sound. Nevertheless this change might not be trivial. We'll let you know which actions we take.
Cheers and thanks for reporting!
Are failed/partial downloads counted? Can they even be detected at the server? I know that when I had a bad service from a previous ISP that large downloads often failed because of dropout/timeout problems. Don't remember trouble with freesound although I never downloaded very much - but Windows update used to be a nightmare!

Afterthought.
I know nothing about mobile phones and ios versions, but might they handle file downloads differently - in a way that triggers multiple fetches for interrupted/corrupted data transfers?

Hi,
It is most probably related to how different os/browsers/download managers handle file downloads.
We decided to revert these changes for now and will implement a fix before enabling them again.
Cheers,
I have just downloaded 2 of my sounds on Win Vista / firefox 52.4 a few times while forcing firefox to crash (with Windows Task Manager) and note that downloads that did not complete still total up on my downloads pages. (check my evil_laugh sounds).
Since smart phones are prone to weak signal drop-out that may be why this phenomenon is more common with them.
Can freesound code be changed so a download isn't counted until it is successfully completed rather than when it is initiated?
Wibby.
We can implement fixes for this, and we will, but for now we'll just disable it
Thanks for the suggestions!
I have been a user sins 3 of september an the first time I know that same user had several downloads from the same file it was in 29:nf of september.

First I wondered then I tested and realised that same happens when I click one time for download one sound by my Iphone I been blamed for 5 download from same file.
But when I doing it from my PC one click=one download.
Hi straget,
The cause of the problem is at the servers of the phone company, not with the phone user. Perhaps they don't have a big enough buffer or long enough timeout window for reliable file transfers so if they sense a dropout or time-out sending the data to the phone they don't resume the transfer but start again. They don't inform the customer of what is going on inside their network so apart from it taking a bit longer than usual (perhaps) the customer would never know. I notice that some of the examples of multiple downloads logged seem to span other downloads and I think I even saw one which spanned more than one day.
But Frederic is on the case now, so I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

(edited - for spelling mistakes)
My pleasure Samuel
Just my thoughts, I'm not an expert on internet and phone thingys so it might be something else entirely...
I think freesound is great too.
