Dear Felix and colleagues,
Yesterday I uploaded a large MP3 file. It's a total of 10 hours long. It shows the city during a partial lock down of my city. The file is in the freesound system and can be downloaded. It is also 10 hours long.
However, the page of my sound shows that the file is 186 minutes long. you also hear only 186 minutes of sound.
Have I infected the system now "?
File: https://freesound.org/people/klankbeeld/sounds/509363/
Please your help.
(o oh, klankbeeld has something crazy again, hihi)
I'm not surprised if a 10 hour file has a shorter preview. Not many people are going to listen to all ten hours to decide if to download, and the preview mp3s take up server space too..
I would expect the sound length to be stated correctly on all page references though. A bug I'm sure is easily corrected.
Congrats on all your hard work. Stay safe.
Wibby.

Your file is listed as "438.7 MB", the upload limit on Freesound is 1024 MB, see ...

10 hours mp3 48kHz joint-stereo 128kbps* is going to be ~500 Mb.
So my guess is the time shown on the Freesound player is incorrect,
rather than your 10 hour file actually being truncated.
[* 128kbps is what my computer says is its bit-rate].
Hi,
We don't intentionally reduce the duration of files when generating the audio previews and images for a sound. However, it's possible that because of the larger than normal duration of this file, a part of the process failed and only converted a few hours.
Note that if you download the file you get the full 10 hour duration. It's just the player on the sound page that shows a short sound. We're going to look into this in a bit more detail and see if we can work out why the process failed. This is a good test case that we don't normally consider, thanks for uploading such a long file!
