With many of the natural soundscape recordings I upload, each time I have to spend time with a little frustration, for they each need to be in more than one pack, and some really need to be in at least three. I guess the official view is that it's good enough to put a recording in the one most relevant pack — but the reality is that that isn't good enough at all for natural soundscapes. Each time I upload one of those I'm doing my best to choose 'the most relevant' pack, but that in itself is often an impossible task because at least two packs are equally relevant. So, I just have to uncomfortably shrug my shoulders at the missed opportunities each time and just put the recording in one pack and not put it in other packs where it also belongs. This would impact similarly any serious natural soundscape recordist.
With my photos on Flickr ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/philip_goddard ), things are organised properly; I can include a single photo in as many 'albums' (read, 'packs') as I like, so people can find them through a range of category searches.
Similarly, on my YouTube presence ( https://www.youtube.com/@philipgoddard-composer ), I can include any one of my videos in any number of playlists (read, 'packs') on my channel.
Yet this is the respect in which Freesound always leaves me feeling rather let-down, through not being able to present my recordings in a manner that makes them maximally accessible through searches.
If there is currently no plan to include such functionality in the near future, I urge that this be given timely consideration for inclusion, because the lack of it is so greatly restricting exposure of uploaders' recordings through online searches.
That aside, a hearty thank-you to the team who keep Freesound going!
I support the idea of one sound being in multiple packs !
Id go even further, it would be cool if one could make packs with other people's sounds!
Like "Best-of Public domain kick" "Best-of public domain snare", Loops for production, "SFX woosh transitions" etc...
I think it would save research time for a few folks. To just have a "cinematography SFX pack" curated from the best sounds and just explore in that.
Maybe there's some flaws to moderate all that which I didn't think of.
Anyhow, recording in multiple packs? Yes please!
