I have uploaded samples previously, and was for the most part impressed with how quickly they got approved.

However, my latest samples have been in the queue for several days...

Is there a way for me to know how long it will take for my samples to be approved?
Also, is there anything I could do in the future to help them get processed more quickly?

It's a matter of availability of moderators. Right now we are only three, and we don't earn money for this, so it may happen that the three of us are busy with personal stuff at the same time, and then is when sounds accumulate, waiting for moderation.

There is nothing you may do to get them processed more quickly. As long as tags, description etc.. are ok, then it's just a matter of time.

If they are not already, your sounds will get into the site soon.

I'm a bit worried that having a moderated system (with only three moderators especially) will not scale well if the site becomes more popular than it is now...

Has anyone ever proposed a community review system, or reactive moderation? I.E. sounds are made public, and users can flag new sounds that may violate licenses or the site rules, etc...

That may not be able to catch quite as much as an approval queue, but it would scale much better. It seems to work pretty well for sites like wikipedia too (in a sense).

There is the matter of scaling, you are quite right. But right now I still prefer moderating by a few hand-picjed moderators. Moderating is difficult business at best ( not to mention the legal implications, but to battle this problem we have anonymous moderation, ... ) as it needs a good combination of knowing how to find possibly bad/illegal samples and steel nerves (people get angy when you tell'm their tags/descriptions are bad!!).

But, the upside is that (probably) almost all descriptions and samples on freesound are legal and have relatively good descriptions...

If the site gets more popular in the sense of *uploads* we will definitely need some kind of public voting system...
