Can I cut a file into several pieces and rearrange it, not even using the entire file?
yes.
mef_1975
Is there a certain amount of files that must be used?
no.

How long should the remix be?
as long as u want.

With basic editing using stuff like cut-paste-pitch you can do practically anything. I remember doing sth for soulseek recs about 2 years ago, I did snares, shakers, kicks, bass, leads, etc and everything just from a single sound using Soundforge, and then sequencing on Reason. It's not hard at all, I think u guys know.I haven't heard the samples yet but I'd like to know how far can I go editing with just the cut-paste thingy (timestretch can be achieved with patience). For now I'll try and do sth simple, I'll be waiting for your reply.
...
I will listen to the song, if I like it and I think you didn't go overboard with the material, keeping the original vibe and idea in tact, you will be in the list for the contenders. If I think I can't feel the original vibe, if I think you just twisted and wrangled the samples until you got exactly what you needed (hey, I need a bassdrum, bitch this down, apply some envelope, ring mod? yeees!) it'll be out.
I mean, it's hard to describe what I want, but it's not so hard to understand!

Bram
just cutting and pasting + volume + pan + basic stuff like compressor/eq/..., please.
no "creative effects", nope, not even timestretch.I want to heard the original material.

Hmm I'm downloading the sample pack now but have been put off slightly by your 'no creative effects' comment. Surely that's a bit boring? Or maybe not ...
I'll see what I can do

Not boring at all...
I kinda get your point, I'll try something and see what it comes out (it's just I love beats!!). And no, I wasn't trying to do ringmod or any other "funny trick" just volume envelopes and basic cutting pasting.
Listened to the submitted worx, this sounds really really cool.
Wasn't too shure where to upload the file... Is there no "official" caixa remix contest folder or something at the ccmixter? Anyway - here's my little contrubution. A dadaist etude... "Patata Orgasm" http://www.ccmixter.org/media/files/Satoration/8206
Anyway - nice site, nice work, great ideas freesound people!
@cyberworm
I've just checked the song on ccMixter, everything looks fine. I click on "download", then I do a right click on "MP3 (2.99MB)", then i choose "save target as" and there's no problem downloading the mp3.
Works with Firefox as well as with that other browser. Maybe it was just temporary?

I really feel we should be using bittorrent to parse large files like these ..
For example, I'm trying to download the whole pack to enter the little competition, but I've been downloading it for over 24 hours now (it failed halfway) and it's only going.. no forget that, it *was* going at 15kb/sec.. Now it's stopped again!!
I've tried using opera and firefox and wget, they all fail this download and the speed is terrible.
Bram, I did suggest that we try some sort of deal about 5 months ago to you.. You was quite negative on the idea and I did understand some points you brung up, but I fail to see the difference of using a different protocol to transfer large files (in this case, specifically sample packs)
I myself and a friend run a legitimate bittorrent site, and I would be more than happy to help distribute samples on here..
Bandwidth costs are a lot, but I think if we all chip-in it would help immensely.
Many sites have adopted this already, for example xltronic ( http://xltronic.com/downloads/tracker/ )
The issues you brought up with using bittorrent to distribute large sample packs that the users would not get credited and I quickly replied that they would be.. Each sample would contain a simple text file of the contact details/website address etc of the user who recorded the sound.. the website in which the sample pack was from and any other additional information (such as CC license it is under)
Yes, data management is kind of slow...
Anyway - another and last remix of caixa sounds "Applauding the Bomb" : http://ccmixter.org/media/files/Satoration/8208
I liked all the songs everyone produced, a great game... best
hi all,
5 hours ago i started making a song. now it is ready for a while. i`m an absoluter beginner, and i did not look further than side 1 of this forum -i have done this a few minutes ago.
so: this one will not take part of the contest, but i just want to add it, because that was my intention. though i just used the packsamples and equ, comp and volume, i used them too much... but maybe might be kind of fun for some. my technical skills are nearly an uncontrolled mass...
when i heard the toothclap sound, i had to think at snoop dogs "drop it.."-hit.
Drop It Like Its Dirt:
ok, my first post, you know...
ouu!, I would very much like to take part in this, but let me get is straight -
is the deadline tomorrow, 15th december, or is it the end of the 2006?
'cause if it's the first case, then I barely have time, and it's not worthy to download the libr. file but wait for new challenge instead
peace
Great song cyberworm - but they said no creative effects - no pitch shifting, reverbs, etc.
Next time - don't give such limitations people - it is better to use everything we can!
