Hello Freesounders
Right... first thing we need to address is afleetingspec's entry after I had closed the dare.
Since I did not say that times are GMT in the initial rules posting, I am going to accept his entry.
Going forward I will make clear that all deadlines should be taken as 23:00 GMT on the deadline date. I will try to close the dares/voting/whatever as close to possible of the exact time.
Second: Voting and scoring rules
We have only 9 entrants this time, so each of us will have a short list of 5 only.
This means that the piece you rate as first gets 5 points, the one you rate as second gets 4 points and do on.
In addition, you are going to get points for samples uploaded and used (SURPRISE!!!)
Since I am making up these rules, I will personally not get any points for samples posted or used (since I knew about this and you all didn't, I will not be getting any points for samples - would be unfair otherwise)
Sample points work like this: you get 1 point for each sample you uploaded, you also get one point for everytime one of your dare-9 samples wsa used. For example, you uploaded 8 samples, 3 samples were used once and one sample was used 4 times... you get 8 + 3 + 4 = 15 'samples' points.
Your final score will be the sum of votes plus 'samples' points.
As always, entrants must vote or be disqualified. Other Freesounders with at least 3 forum postings can also vote.
DEADLINE: Voting closes at 23:00 (GMT) on sunday 5th Feb 2012
(note: if Freesound is down for anti-spam maintenance during the voting period I will extend it.
Also, to allow you to keep track of this thread (as it is likely to disapear in the flood of SPAM) you may just want to make a quick post here to subscribe to the thread. That will be OK.
I'm disappointed I missed the deadline for this. I didn't know when it was and was thwarted by all the spam on this site. I couldn't even find the relevent threads! I worked hard on trying to get it finished and was going to work up until the deadline and upload what I'd got at thaat stage. I will still put it up on my own Soundcloud page for anyone interested.

Let puniho enter the competition, please!!
The site is a spamming mess the last few days anyway, and there are only 9 contenders....
Maybe a vote for this first?
I say YES! Lol
AlienXXX, Bluddy agreed.
Every board has nearly 5 pages full of absolute SPAM.
It's silly. Im shocked the forum doesn't have any form of report feature.
The forum seems very insecure, it seems security was partially overlooked.
I've had a really inspiring and entertaining half an hour listening to all the tracks! Thanks to all who have contributed.

A mysterious piece that gets the listeners attention. It really hits you, when the ghost dance starts at 1.26. So great!

Fo real, all dares submitted this time were extremely exciting to hear. Such variety and such subtlety in some of the pieces. Such processing and such structure, too, in many of them. Such good recordings and such good commitment! I am a proud freesounder -- that is all I can say. Good job guys!
Well, I've just been listening again to all the tracks and it's very hard putting them into a ranking order. However, my list is:
5 - Kyster
I liked the minimalist mood and the way it was slowly built up over the course of the track.
4 -Ramacod
This one grew on me on subsequent listening. I like the movement in the bass line.
3 - afleetingspeck
I enjoyed the narrative!
4 - sonofapreacherman
This one I thought was quite experimental and a creative use of the material.
5 - thatjeffcarter
Nice gentle new agey feel to it.
Oops! Just realised my dyslexia has been playing up again and I got my numbers muddled up half way down the list! Make that:

5p: afleetingspeck - The Lion's Final Battle.
Good structure. Great beat. fun. keeps you interested. great job.
4p: Puniho - Ghost of Christmas Leftovers With Cranberry Jam.
Very good work with the samples. Nice atmospheres and ambiences and very musical at the same time.
3p: Kyster - and what have you done.
Love the simplicity in this one. few elements well put together.
2p: thatjeffcarter - Islands of misfits.
Great sound design and mix. Lovely music.
1p: klankbeeld - Thanks for the bubbles.
I like the "rawness" of this one. somehow attracts me. great ending too!
It's amazing how many different perspectives a simple bunch of samples can offer! great job guys. To all of you. It's been really tough to leave joannageralyn, sonofapreacherman, AlienXXX and escortmarius out.
Thank you all for the samples, and thanks for the dares! It's these little things that keep me tweaking samples and trying to put together songs. Always entertaining.
Waiting for the next one!
Im a complete newbee at making music, except for some music lessons I had when I was 8 to 10.
Actually played the accordeon, because my mom told me to..............
Anyway I HATED the accordeon and didnt want to have anything to do with music after that.
So, why am i joining the dare? your going to ask now..
Well, Im 34 now and in the last 24 years developed a new taste for music, mainly partying
Half a year ago I got a new phone, and there are some nice synths and recording apps.
When I was at work, during breaktime, I was playing around with my new toy
Then a colleague said he played around a little too only on his computer at home and with a real synth.
Well to make the story short, the next day I went home with a copy of Fl-studio on my usb stick, and thats were things got started.
I wanted to find some new samples to play with, and thats how I came to this wonderfull site.
Freesound I Love You!!!!!
Oke, time for my votes.
Im just going on what I hear, thats all I can do right now.

My voting
5 points: Jgeralyn: Another Man's Treasure (dare9)
It is a wonderful composition. I love the simplicity of it. Well done..
4 points Escortmarius: Shit, almost to late....
hahaha, this is DARE. Using me shitting. Far from my point of view (close tho the original sound) but lovely. (And your line: “Special thanx go to klankbeeld for making this all possible”. It was me a pleasure it was my daily routine haha......)
3 points Schluppipuppie: freesound.org dare 09 - Trying to escape (but did not)
I love this composition very much. What a rich sound. The non dare-9 cat gives it a great ending.
2 points Thatjeffcarter: The Island of Misfit Sounds - A Freesound Project Dare
I like the atmosphere you have created. Sounds natural. Great composition.
1 point Kyster: And what have you done(Dare 9)
It is really great to here this beautiful composition on a Sunday morning. Thanks.
All others were well done, but I have to make a choice.. sorry.
Thank you all for using my sounds.
Ps to schluppipuppie you wrote: Didn't you use my banana box samples too?
If so, I offer you my apologies.
Thanks Alienxxx for this dare.It was fun to do again.
And for every one on freesound. Join the next dare. You will love it...
Ps to schluppipuppie you wrote: Didn't you use my banana box samples too?

No problem. Was just asking because it sounded like the banana box
since we had to shortlist, I was kind of a hard-ass in my voting. Since I liked all of the entries the easiest way for me to to it was to find the tracks that followed ALL of the rules and then rank those,
1: schluppipuppy, a lovely slow build (which happen to be one of my favorite things).
2: klankbeeld, I experienced a complete sonic anecdote! nice job.
3: kyster, the most mysterious thing to me about this piece is that I always feel theres some hidden dichotomy lurking in there, but every time I listen that duality represents different things!
4:thatjeffcarter, your island is such a gossamer dream-scape. especially since you used some pretty hard samples its quite well done, the little drumming that comes in at the end is our alarm waking us up, darn!
5: afleetingspeck, the number of samples and consistency of atmosphere are impressive but I think I was most impressed by the intro especially since beginnings are often difficult for me.
alienXXX, beautiful, but so short. this is definately the beginning, or potentially the conclusion to a GREAT future piece
bebops, I really enjoyed this, but you were just short of the 10 samples rule
escortmarius, a wonderful soundspace, but you didnt utilize 10 or more of the dare sounds.
Puniho, lovely textures, but it was a little disconnected for me.
