jgeralyn hit the nail on the head!
There has been a lot of talk recently about voting criterai. Take note people, this is what I will specifically ask you to do when voing on the next dare (to open VERY soon).
You will be asked to take two concepts into account
1) Did the piece follow all the rules? - Listen and, very important, read carefully the user's posts on what samples were used and what was done to them.
Then decide if all the rules were followed.
2) Does the piece follow the 'spirit' of the dare (i.e., whart you feel like the dare intended you to do)?
This is a subjective one... as different people may interpret the dare somewhat differently. That is fine.
Voting for the next dare is almost 1 month away. So don't worry, in the voting thread I wil post these voting criteria again.
Thanks jgeralyn!
Here are my votes. And a really short comment on each piece.
As I have often (always?) done, I go with emotion when it comes to voting. My criteria, if I had to define one, is the image that the piece evoques in me when I listen to it. Doesn't neet to be a nice image... doens't even need to be a nice piece... but how strong is that image? The emotion that emanates from the piece?
First place with 5 points: Kyster - and what have you done
Not the best piece of the lot, but the one that provoques the strongest emotions in me when listenning. For me, the mental image I get from this piece strikes at the very core of human emotion, so... first place!
Second place with 4 points: Jgeralyn - Another Man's Treasure
A piece that mesmerized me. This is straight out of an X-files episode. Awesome!
This was a very close call with ThatJeffCarter's piece (see comments below comparing both pieces)
Third place with 3 points: ThatJeffCarter - The Island of Misfit Sounds
A close call between Jgeranyl's as to which is the best piece. Can't decide, really.
ThatJeffCarter's piece is one that brings a feeling of introspection... a paraphylosophycal-almost-religious reflection on the meaning of life and of being. Jgeraly's has a more immediate connotation bringing feelings of the unknown and fear.
Although strong, ThatJeffCarter's piece evoques the image of a dream to me, Jgeralyn's is an image of (a very strange) reality... so realty wins... just!
Fourth place with 2 points: Klankbeeld - Thanks for the bubbles
It is the first time that I can remember ever listening to a piece and having an image for a cartoon build up in my mind! I am particularly pleased as klankbeeld says this was very close to the image he was trying to transmit.... a case of telepathy?
Fifth place with 1 point: Afleetingspec - The lion's final battle
I am alsmost surprised why I am only giving this piece 1 point. I could certainly feel the savanah's heavy hot air and the lions tiredness and fear... I could picture the Zulus hot in its track with their spears... Why only one point? It forced me to re-think all the scores again... then I realised why!
A great piece no doubt... but the image it brings to mind is that of the suffering of a lion, not a human being... that is why I could not relate to it in the same deep level as with previous pieces!
So 1 point it is!
Everyone else... All pieces entered are actually of great quality. Rarely, if ever, do I find 'technical flaws'. Even then, they are usually mere details and subtract very little from the value and enjoyability of the pieces.
Well done everyone, I hope to see you all in the next dare!

Dear freesounders,
Voting for dare 9 is now closed.
Any votes posted after this message will not be counted.
As I came up with such a complicated points system this time... Final results are likely to only be out by next weekend (12 Feb 2012).
I am sure the points for samples will completely change all the current positions based on votes. The only sure thing is that I will come up last
While you wait for the Dare 9 results, check out Dare 10 which is just open !!!
