this was really hard for me as I find it much easier to maneuver within rules, but also finding inspiration for this dare, as I dislike spring. my inspiration for this song is to overcome the challenge of life, death. witnessing a close family member's death has put a new perspective in place and this is a sound-wave answer to the question.
Dear All
I am quite disappointed with the low number of entries for the current dare
Maybe everyone is too busy...
... Or perhaps the theme was not as interesting as i thought.
It is a shame, especially since Dare 10 was such a dynamic one with so many interesting discussions.
Anyway, i have previously been asked to issue a warning before the closing deadline...
The official close is 31st march 2012 at 11pm GMT, but since i will be away from my computer at that time, you will get until the next morning.
I guess people got busy this time around. You won't believe, I have about 21 tabs open for the sounds that i have wanted to download. Funny part is they have been open for almost 15 days. I'll try to get an entry before the deadline, but not sure since there is almost no time. Don't be disappointed, though! I have a feeling the next dare is going to see more entries.
Yep... I know busy...
I am working like mad now as I am in the process of moving jobs.
Flying away on saturday 31st, hence not being available to close the dare at 11pm...
Lets hope that is the reason and not that people have lost interest in the dares.
Well I'm still having computer woes. Now getting a new motherboard for a computer still under warranty. I've been a whole month without my music making system.
Apart from that however, I'm still feeling a little discouraged by my last D10 entry. I'm kind of feeling like I just want to do my own thing on my own terms and in my own time, for a bit anyway.

Im having computer problems too, hope everything is oke for the next dare.........

I tried to follow rules: hope kids voices are consistant.
Other samples were "spring" tagged - spring of water and metal spring.
I followed samples' flavors, without a project. The initial wirefence sound is so rich that I used as a circle at beginning and end. Water comes from underground then become more clear, this lead to open air with kids playing. Lambs voices are mixed with children: a weird association, thinking about Easter, but it's a random result, I didn't look for it. Then back to the starting metal sound, and fading away with water.
many thanks to

all samples are listed in this bookmark (direct links are in Soundcloud file description):

made with Audacity.
effect: pitch bend on metal spring and wirefence,
volume and pan on the rest / no delay, no reverb.
very nice.
Here is my proposition for Dare 11 (Celebrate Spring)... The piece is called 'Underground Springs".
http://soundcloud.com/alienxxx/underground-springs-v1-0a
Walking through a forest one reaches a water fall. Behind the waterfall there is a cave were water pours in from cracks in the ceiling. Inside this cave live some bouncy musical creatures that can be heard but not seen.
The water spring is obviously represented by the waterfall, running water and dripping sounds.
The Spring is represented by the birdsongs in the forest.
The mechanical spring is represented by a jawharp and spring reverb.
EDIT (as promised, full details of samples)

To avoid making this post too long I have put the details of how this piece was built in the soundcloud post only.
Dear All,
I am closing Dare 11 for submissions.
Apologies for the late closing and my late entry. It was physically impossible to close the dare at the scheduled time as I was in an airplane at that time...
Life just got in the way...
I am less bothered about this than I would normally be since with so few entries this month we will not be running a vote.
Please do comment on other entrant's pieces if you have not yet done so. Feedback/comments ARE the most important part of the dares... (at least as far as I am concerned)
Thank you to all that participated. And whether you did participate in Dare 11 or not, I hope to see you in the next dare!
it was fun to participate, thanks AlienXXX.
I spent 2 days picking and choosing samples, then in one afternoon I mixed all; next Dare I'll take more time.
If not already given, here's my suggestion for the rules: one can use (also) his own samples but only if made for the Dare (and of course shared in Freesound) - just an idea, current rules are ok for me.
Hi everyone,
The digital world has opened his doors for me again!
My 13 year old computer left this world, but Im back with a new sidekick(9 year old computer)
I just listened to all the entries and really enjoyed all of them.
Good job everyone!!
Next dare I will join again!

Hey Cajo,
Thanks for your entry and for your comments on all entries.
I think you will like the next dare in the sense that there will be the opportunity to record your own sounds to be used in the dare - which is sort of what you were suggesting.
I don't do this all the time, though... all dares are different...
I think I will give people a couple of days to post comments on all tracks. Then, since there is no voting this time, we move on to the next dare quicker than usual.
I still have the tabs open and I still haven't downloaded the sounds, but I will definitely make the track that I had in mind. It might be 1 month, 2 months or even 5 from now, but this thread will see a submission from me. I'll comment in the discussion thread later with feedback. When can we expect the next dare, AlienXXX?
