Dear All,
We have just enough entries to run a vote
Simple rules:
1) If you participated in the dare you must vote.
2) Any Freesounder who did not participate in the dare can vote if they have uploaded at least 3 sounds or have got at least 3 forum posts.
3) For voting please post in this thread listing all tracks starting with the best. The first track gets 6 points, the second gets 5 points, and so on.
Voting will close on Tuesday 1st May, around 11pm (GMT).
Shortly after that results will be posted on a separate thread.
Okay, voting....
I liked all entries a lot this time, didnt make the voting easy.
So I voted on the pieces that actually made me feel a certain way. (like I always do)
6 Points go to Cannonrayj Jejune, I had a whole range of emotions listening to this piece, but the sence of being trapped or lost in the desert, made this piece hit the nail on the head!!!
5 Points to Spoorloos Singing torture, I think this piece was hilarious!!!
4 Points to afleetingspeck In the dance studio, great piece, almost like I was there myself! Also I like how you bended the rules a little.....(wish I would have come up with that)
3 Points to bohara2000 Another job well done, This one was also very funny, I was wondering what a drunken sailor sounds like, now I know!
2 Points to jgeralyn s-m-a-r-t, Sounds like me starting the day, It always takes me about half an hour before I can funtion properly.....
If your high on the list dont feel to good, If your low on the list dont feel to sad.
I enjoyed all entries!!
See you on the next dare!!
Hey everyone!
I guess my ranking is based on how much each piece sounded like a "sonic postcard," both my perception and the stated concept.
1) Jejune - Cannonrayj, I could see exactly what was described and could resonate with the use of drone for that image. You should think about revisiting this piece in the future, I'm not sure the end quite works for me as a punctuation, perhaps making it longer with another section like the beginning?
2) Spoorloos - Singing Torture, As I said in my timed comment I think that the jump/cut style of editing was perfect to emphasize the cinematic, and frightening, concept.
3) UFOFactory - escortmarius, Such an interesting story and the composition was nice, but I was wishing it sounded either a little more "old" or a little more "sci-fi" for me to really see the story myself.
4) Another Job Well Done - bohara2000, A fun collage, I really enjoyed your restrained use of effects it brought the sounds together into a whole, but since you didn't describe a set situation I couldn't judge whether the piece could convey that to me.
5) In the Dance Studio - afleetingspeck, I loved this of course but it was just a short dance piece; if you had shaped the dance part more with the voices and applause and made it sound like a crowded club almost overpowering the rhythms, then it would have been both very "you" and a perfect response to the dare.
Love the fact all of us waited until the last day (last few hours, in fact) to vote. Afraid of DQ, anyone? Hm? Hm? HMMMMMMM?
One thing I must mention before I vote: I honestly think I ought to be disqualified because the original source called for a non-musical entry, and just like joanna commented, if I had more of an "atmosphere" in the sound, it would be in line with the spirit of this particular dare. So, while I definitely appreciate your voting on my pieces, I think I bent the rules a bit too much.
Here are the votes. On scales of 1-10, I assigned you points and the higher the points, the better your rank. Because a lot of the entries (in my opinion) veered away from the main dare, my votes, too, will levy more emphasis on the non-this-particular-dare aspects of the compositions. Out of 10, 7 for the whole mood (irrespective of the idea of the dare), and 3 for following the spirit the dare.
Bryant O Hara (Another Job Well Done): 5/2
Spoorloss (Singing Torture): 6/3
Joannageralyn (S.M.A.R.T.): 5/2
Escortmarius (UFO Factory): 5/3
Cannonrayj(Jejune): 7/1
So the ranks are:
1. Spoorloss (6 points)
2. Escortmarius (5 points)
3. Cannonrayj (4 points)
4. Jgeralyn and Bryant (2.5 points to each).
I will elaborate further later on tonight or tomorrow. For now gotta get back to work. Congratulations everyone!
Dear All,
I am in a rush so only time for the scores. I will ellaborate on these tomorrow.
I have PMed bohara2000 and Spoorloss to remind them to vote. Hopefully they will do so.
Cannonrayj - 6 points
Spoorloss - 5 points
Jgeralyn - 4 points
bohara2000 - 3 points
Escortmarius - 2 points
afleetingspeck - 1 point
All the entries have their own merits. You have, yet again, surprised me with the quality, diversity and creativity of your entries, so you should be proud of what you have done (regardless of score). - I realise this dare was exceptionally difficult.
im late, sorry i hope you will accept this, i got on asap, ill jump in the bandwagon; do the scores and post the rest later.
first w/ 5pt. Jgeralyn
second w/ 4pt. Escortmarius
third w/ 3pt. afleetingspeck
fourth w/ 2pt. bohara
fifth w/ 1pt spoorloss

'DQ' stands for disqualified or disqualification...
I will close the voting after dinner... Just in case there is any late late post...
OK boys and girls, that is it!
Voting closed!
Give me a day or two to add up all the results (remember that I need to count the points for samples submitted and used too, eh?)
In the meantime... the thread for Dare 13 will be up in a few minutes.
I meant to ask people to take someone else's entry and re-process it. Or something like that.
But there did not seem to be enough interest / activity / entries on this dare, so I gave up on the idea.
Previously it has happened that most people posted their entries early on and then sort of had to hang around and get bored waiting for the close of the dare... and the voting... So I was trying to add something to keep the activity going. It just turned out to be the wrong dare to do it.
Anyway... onwards and upwards...
The next dare will have a double dare feature, which is much simpler and is visible from the onset.

Hi Marius.
Yes. With being away this completely slipped my mind. I have only had access to the web via mobile phone...
