Halloween is upon us. It is time to celebrate all things scary.
Your challenge for this month is to create a piece that really gets the listener's hairs at the back of the neck to spike up... Something that will keep us awake at night!
You can use any sounds from Freesound. You are also encouraged to make up new sounds to use in your piece - but you have to post these to Freesound too and you will need to list them in the sample credits.
Basically, all sounds that you use must either come from Freesound or you have to upload them to Freesound - because of this, you cannot use any sounds from sample libraries (those would be illegal to upload to Freesound).
You can use synth sounds (virtual or hardware), but you must make those sounds yourself (i.e., no factory or third party patches).
Hope this is clear. If not, please ask.
Deadline for submissions is 29th Oct, approx 11pm GMT.
EDIT, 6-Oct-2012
Forgot to mention, you make your entry by posting the piece at Soundcloud and a post with a link to it on this thread.
Please make your piece downloadable at Soundcloud.
http://www.reverbnation.com/mrxxplanet is full of my horrific music (not all of it is crazy but I do have plenty of songs that are halloween related!!)
I've finished my entry for the 16th dare.
All attribution is on soundcloud, hope you enjoy it

Hello Bliss. Welcome to the Dares! (straight on your first post, too!)
We need to know what sounds from Freesound you have used to create your piece. These must be listed on the description of your Soundcloud song. You can also have them here in the forum post, if you want.
Did you use any sounds not from Freesound?

Did you read the rules on the first post of this thread?
Did you use Freesound samples?

This made me chuckle...

Is it compulsory to use Soundcloud? Or should that be if you make your........
The reason I ask is that for once the dare doesn't stipulate music or "song" so I might enter and upload to Freesound.
My entry is complete
Dare #16 - Under the Shadow
Thanks

but you'll have to replace [DOT COM] with .com - sorry.
Had this done for a couple months, but I thought it fit in nicely for this little thing going on here.

Hello Benboncan
Sorry, don't know how, I missed your post. I thought I was subscribed to this thread...
Most entries tend to be too musical for Freesound. If yours isn't, I guess you could upload to Freesound.
Another reason why uploading to Soundcloud is preferred is that jgeralyn created a group there called "Freesound Dares", so we can group all the dare entries and they would be accesssble as a "set".
So, basically, although Soundcloud is preferred a non-musical entry could be uploaded to Freesound. That would be acceptable.

Is it ok to put in some instrument sounds with i.e. Symphonic orchestra (Vsti pluging)?
The idea is that if you make sounds to use in the piece, you must make those available at freesound for others to use in the future.
I believe Symphonic Orchestra is a sample library (with a VST sample player).
You can't upload library sounds to freesound (copyright violation). So you can't use this VST instrument.
Sorry.
The Visit

[EDIT]
I also uploaded a bonus version on
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20857460/Dare16%20-%20The%20Visit%20%28bonus%29.mp3
But the drums i have played are from a commercial library and are not distuingishable as an original composition (they are just percussion patterns) so not eligble for entry. just for fun.
