Don't forget that if you create your own sounds (as opposed to or in addition to Freesound samples) you need to add those new sounds to Freesound too - that is part of the dare rules (although I trust you guys and won't be checking. The idea is to expand the Freesound database if you are creating good sounds, as they might also be of use to others).
Oh of course. I wouldn't want the sounds to go to waste now would I...

Hey guys, how is it comming along?
Posted this morning a sound I created specifically for this collab-1 dare, so it reminded me to ask how others are doing...
Yeah not bad, just experimenting really.
It amazes me sometimes what we can achieve just by playing
GO CRAAZY!
hey guys, sorry i've been away.
i've been working on a remix for a competition that just closed.
voting has started so if you like my mix, help me out.
Christina Aguilera "Your Body" Remix Competition
Thanks guys!
Now that I'm done with that, I gotta get back to the dare!
Still very quiet around here...
Maybe everyone is working very hard... No time to come to the Freesound Forums
Me and Snapper4298 decided to use Jeskola Buzz as our music building program. It is free and Snapper persuaded me to try it.
After some initial challenges we are making really good progress and are happy with they way it is comming up.
How is everyone else doing?
Working hard indeed AlienXXX, also on the dare!
Cajo is troubled with latency issues, I finnaly managed to make a synthesized kick
I didnt think about the drums at first, only later, I noticed that the drums in flstudio are sample based... :0
Its very interesting to make a drum sound in audacity, I always used samples before.
This dare is one hell of a nutcracker!!, Alienxxx thanx!!
This is a very labour intense dare, maybe you can stretch the timelimit a little???
I am going to search for that Jeskola Buzz...........

I am glad you are enjoying it. Remember: you ARE allowed to use samples, PROVIDED they are samples of synthesized sounds.
Although, I agree: it is probably more fun to synthesize the sounds yourself

Not motivated enough this time around, and too many, WAYY TOO MANY - almost 5 - exams (and about 4 quizzes) every week continuously for the past 7 weeks or so.
Will have more time come December 15.
AlienXXX, I'll get the other stuff done in a couple days. Will post on December 1st.
Good luck, everyone!
I'm glad you came clean. I thought it was just my half of our colab that was lacking in enthusiasm.
I just want to clarify with you that I have been thinking about it, although at the moment I too have been amazingly busy. In the past few weeks I've been getting a lot of commissions that are taking up all my creative time. Also with university being demanding for assignments, its not looking hopeful.
There's still a bit of time before the deadline
@afleetingspeck
Don't worry 'Specky', there will be more dares and more collab dares.
Sort out what is important in your life first.
Good luck with the exams.
May not look it now, but your student days will be the easiest and most stress free time of your life (at least that is so for most people)
@Head-Phaze
Well...well... commissions!?
I see youprobably don't have the time to play with the rest of us amateur musicians anymore!
Hey, good luck too on your exams and uni assignments.
Please don't let this put you off from participating in future collab dares.
@Everybody Else
Doing a collab is at least twice as difficult, as you have to coordinate the time and inspiration for 2 people rather than just yourself. Not to mention the technical difficulties of exchanging files (and ideas!), especially if working accross different software/hardware.
So if you are finding it more challenging than usual - it is not because you are doing anything wrong. You are probably doing everything righ: it IS more challenging and difficult!
AlienXXX wrote:Well...well... commissions!?
Funny actually, one of the commissions is an ongoing video game project. I actually obtained this 'work for hire' through Freesound. An indie games developer enquired about the use of one of my sounds, and it just led to producing music and sound design specifically for the game. After a while he asked if I would be his "sound department" (this made me chuckle too).
So a message to EVERYONE: Freesound isn't just a place where you upload and download pieces of audio. Its also a place for networking, and can get you work as I've demonstrated. Which is why, even though I have no time to dedicate to a Dare or uploading many sounds, I always find just a moment to utilise the website's communication side. And recently the great duty of moderating!

Play is my middle name
Besides you guys are like my family now, I have the greatest respect and sentiment for what goes on here and I feel privileged to have this as a space to share my loving creations and converse with like-minded people. So thanks to Bram the godfather.

Luckily I don't have any exams with my Degree; the coursework is plentiful however!
Oh I won't let it put me off! As soon as I have the time to dedicate to it, I will.

think I won't work anymore on synthesized sounds, it's a mess for scientists!
latency is only one problem... big enough anyway.
now Live crashes 1 out of 2 time, maybe a conflict with the VST soft synth
I had less troubles with XP... maybe is widows8 fault, don't know.
Anyway escortmarius already won the first prize in Patience
Oh yes we will!! Even if I have to make it all by my self!!!!!

Remember also that you can use samples of synth souds from Freesound.
Even if you are creating your own sounds, you can sample those and work with the samples instead - less CPU power and less risk of crashes.
By the end of today i will have posted a large number of FM perc sounds. Maybe those will help.
I am making an entrie no matter what, I don't want to waste all this work.........
no no, I'll do something anyway
at least some fx as .wav in the mix, as suggested.
but I will avoid this sort of dare, too tech for me...
thanks to you all for your empathy!
I'm having major latency problems too. Realtime kernelproperties is a mess right now because of my soundcard. I'll have to buy a new one, but i'm afraid i won't make it in time for the deadline. Uptil now, i haven't been able to do one second of editing/mixing.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "latency problems". I have had latency issues before, but that was using live audio as input into Ableton Live.
Are you saying tou are having bit latency issues using midi keyboards and VST synths?
If you are not already using an ASIO driver, you should try. ASIO4all is free and worked for everyone I know of who has tried it in windows.
Also. There is no reason to do anything different from the pieces you have done before using samples from Freesound.
You CAN use samples from Freesound still (synthesized sampled sounds)
If you are making your own sounds consider the following:
1) From your existing project, go to the VST synths you are using and save the sounds you have made as presets on a suitable place in your hard-drive.
2) Create a new project. Load up your VST of choice and load your preset into the VST.
3) Create a clip with just one note, prefeably C on the octave you are using on the project (or more than one, if you want to multi-sample).
4) Render that clip to audio. Edit it to perfectly extract your sampled VST synth sound.
5) load that sound into a sampler anr replace the VST synth track on your project with the sampled one.
It should be that easy. And if you were working with samples form Freesound before, this would now be no different.
That is exactly what I have done in my collab project.
I have synthesized all my sounds in Reason. Exported as samples and imported those into Buzz.
The samples themselves are now also very easy to upload into Freesound.

The thing is, that my old pc is dead. That happened about two and a half weeks ago. Since then i've got a laptop, that i could have if i could repair it. So i repaired it
I'm on linux, no windows and no mac, and that's how i like it. This way i can pretty much decide what get to be on my computer, and what doesn't.
Vst is pretty much useless on linux (i know, it can be done, but this involves a lot of workarounds etc. that i just don't want to get into). To use the DAW i know (Ardour3), and most other DAWs for linux, you have to have realtime kernel properties, AND use something called "jack" ( http://jackaudio.org/ ) to connect everything. this means i can use programs never created for each other, to work together.... and a little more than that.
To make a long story short, the soundcard in my laptop is fixed together with the gpu, and this is in some way preventing me from being able to work in realtime, so everything i hear is acting like a very bad streamed song on youtube, if that explains anything. The sound doesn't flow, but stops every other millisecond. I've tried to work around it, removing everything that uses the same irq as the soundcard (two usb ports) via the terminal, but with every step i take towards a solution, it seems to me that something is still giving me hard times making this work.
In the end i've been scouring the net for solutions for the past two weeks. The guys over at linuxmusicians have been very patient with me, and i am more thankful for their help, than they ever could imagine, but i fear that my solution will involve me buying an external soundcard. Only problem is, i've got more that enough of things to spend money on right now.
I will continue to seek a solution though, but i'm not sure it can be done just by writing commands in my terminal, although i hope so.
And to answer a question not yet asked; no i cannot just install windows on the laptop. I haven't got a license
