Alright everyone!
I see that samples continue to come in fast. Some great sounds already uploaded and I am very curious as to what other sounds we will still get before the 10th Jan deadline

Here are the rules for the dare:
1) Your submission will need to be a musical piece, between 2 and 5 minutes long.
Post a link to your piece on this thread, giving credits to all samples used.
The preferred place to submit your piece is at Soundcloud.
2) You can submit a piece even if you did not submit any sounds.
3) You must only use samples that have been tagged with 'collab-2'. You must use at least one sample from each uploader (including your own, if you uploaded any).
4) Any effects that emulate tape saturation are not allowed. However, you are allowed to use saturation/distortion/overdrive effects, provided you are not trying to emulate tape saturation.
All other effects and processing are allowed.
5) Deadline to announce teams for collab is 10 Jan 2013, 22:00 GMT time (same deadline as for sample uploads). No more collab teams after this date, please.
You can participate as an individual (i.e., no collab).
You can only submit one entry (so, if you are in a collab you cannot submit an individual piece).

DEADLINE for entry submissions: 31st Jan 2013, 22:00 GMT.

If there are enough entries there will be a vote. If there will be a voting a specific voting thread will be open after 31st Jan which will contain any specific voting rules. If you submitted an entry you must vote - or else you loose all votes awarded to your piece. FOR COLLABS, BOTH MEMBERS OF THE TEAM MUST VOTE.

Please keep this thread for entries only.
For anything else use the DISCUSSION THREAD.

Hi guys,

Here is my contribution to the dare-2 this month. It's a solo number produced using only freesound.org samples from the collab-2 tag section available and includes at least one sample from every other contributor as required. Hope you enjoy it. I'll post up the links to all the freesounds I used in the next few days.

Hey thanks toiletrolltube I created 4 samples from one... each sample then has either the left of right channel inverted or flipped upside down, which readjusts where the sound is coming from... like it plays with the stereo balance... so the sound moves around the speakers. It's subtle, but enough for you to pick up on it. I'm really glad, thanks a lot for listening and commenting.

OK, I have an update. The tune I have published was my own work entirely as I thought my buddy escortmarius was not able to take part. I have since heard back that he can so we are going to do a joint project. There are still 9 days left so we have time to work together. I'll hide the current entry from soundcloud and post the finalised joint production at the end of the month.

I thought my partner might be able to take part on this collab but unfortunately, too many things are going on right now so as a result, we've agreed to allow this one as my solo entry and hope to collab in the near future.

There's a couple of puniho tape cassette sounds used, I'm not sure which recording they came from but one sound runs through most of my breakbeats, thre is another at the end with a nice tape hiss.

welcome welcome welcome back!

Yeah, life often gets in the way of music and other important stuff.
Happens to all of us at one point or another.

On the other hand, I tend to be good at keeping promises and I did promise that we would use your sounds - I remember how much trouble you went to in order to get a tape recorder! And afterwards you had to take it apart and re-assemble it (Frankenstein style).
So we will have another pass at those sounds, don't you worry!
(I am a great fan of your single string home made bass, by the way!)

In fact, this dare produced the most prolific and amazing collection of sounds ever!

I can even say it was inspirational to others - After that dare being posted I moderated a number of tape samples from others, who were too late or decided not to participate in the dare directly, but still found the idea of tapes inspirational...
