Dear Freesounders,
Some of us have entered collaborations ('collabs') with other Freesounders and made great music. Most of the people who have participated in collabs, myself included, say that the results are great: they usually learn a lot, make music they would never have made on their own and have great fun.
I think often we would like to do more collabbs but are short of a key ingredient - a partner!
I would like to propose a collab club - The Collaborators Collective.
The first logical step seems to be to ask if there are people interested.
So reply to this post if you are!
You might also want to post in this thread:
http://www.freesound.org/forum/dare-the-community/32171/
to tell us a bit about yourself, what gear and software you use. Also make sure to indicate on that thread as well if you are interested in collaborating with other Freesounders.
Maybe you even have made an entry on that thread already (ages ago!), so why not just update it?
We will see how this goes. Really depends on the level of interest.
We start with this post, then maybe setup a mailing list or something, so we can keep in touch and post collab requests, etc.
Lets see how it goes....
Hello all,
most of what I wrote at the time here is still valid,
http://www.freesound.org/forum/dare-the-community/32171/?page=1#post60122
with some hardware updates (i5 pc, USB mic) and an evolution over the time spent on SoundCloud bringing me from purely electronic music to purely vocal tracks, with quite a lot of singing inbetween, plus mixing and production also on some tracks by friends.
So where's the catch? There's always one!
Creativity... or lack thereof Mine is quite rare and absolutely unpredictable, I'll never know in advance when and on what it'll click, so be warned
And oh, thanks AlienXXX
Hey I have some questions, is this just collaborating with other users and combining each others software's to make great new sounds/music. And I am pretty sure you said to make music and this is Freesound we cant post music on Freesound or else it would be called Freemusic but and also I have already tried to post music my own music on this site and none of the moderators would let me. So would the works created by this be posted here or on some other site like Soundcloud.

lol, like I said better last than never but yah it did take a little bit glad you noticed, did you check my wikia links I posted I wanted people mostly to see my custom helmets on the Swift(Cpt. Swift) page, lol it took 3 hours each to make
@luckylittleraven: Thank you so much! I hope to have a "Back to elec" phase sometime soon
And I hope to hear more from the full lineup of your latest track!
@18Hiltc
The idea here is to break the ice and give people a group that shares an interest in collaborating.
So that if someone is looking to collab, they should always be able to find a partner within the group that is willing and available.
Also, please do not de-rail this thread by advertising your work
This thread is for 'enrollment' and discussions on the Collaborators Collective only.
@AlienXXX My bad but I mentioned it because I posted it in the tell us about yourself thread and since that is my work it tells a lot about myself but either way my bad, and I think I understand. Like collaborating with other users so you both can make something that they wouldn't be able to do without the other user.
As copycat said you never know when creative inspiration will come but I am interested in collaborating with people who want to experiment a bit. I don't really have any grand designs but love to create music as a hobby. My production and mixing are improving all the time. Maybe you've got some lyrics or a half finished song and suddenly got writer's block, or a bunch of riffs and an idea, or you just want to mash up some sounds. I also enjoyed doing a remix and would like to do more of those. I would be interested in doing anything that directly relates to the freesound project. If anyone's interested they can contact me here initially and we'll go from there
I asked this question and didn't get the answer: Where will the works be posted (Freesound, Soundcloud, or some other sound/music website.) And I may consider collaborate with some other users, sense a lot of the time I look through peoples sounds and edit them to make them sound shorter or completely different(Of course I give credit no matter the license). If you want to collaborate with me just send me a private message or send me a message through this thread(but I prefer the private message).
If the work is not related to freesound of course we won't be able to post it here. It would depend on the project and be up to the people working together to decide where to post it. (I guess)
This forum would be a place to express your interest and find other like-minded people.
Freesound is used by so many different people for different reasons there are a lot of people who won't be interested in this, (but hopefully some that will) so this seperate thread helps keep things relevant.
As luckylittleraven said, this thread is just for people to register their interest in collaborating. - So that someone else looking for a collab can reach out to them.
The thread is what we have right now, but we may evolve this into something outside of Freesound. - This would probably be a 'mailing list' as I am not technically gifted nor have the availability of time to do much more than that
But to be honest, I think we can probably manage the whole thing using Freesound forum posts, PMs and emails - I do not think this will suddenly become a very large group.
@18hiltc to answer your question
"where will the works be posted?"
Musical works cannot be posted on Freesound: check the rules on the sample upload pages. Freesound is for sounds only, not music.
We have posted the dares in Soundcloud, but it is up to the people collabing to decide where their work goes: Soundcloud, CCMixter, Bandcamp, personal webpages, UK Top Ten...
The possibilities are endless...
I mean, imagine someone contacts you to help with creating a soundtrack that they will use for their school play. They probably have no interest in posting it anywhere, they just want to use it as a soundtrack during their school play.
I am American mate, lol, just wanted to say that. But yah I understand and I pretty much just want to collaborate with someone that is only going to post it here because I don't have a account on any of the sites you mentioned(Actually this is the only sound website I have a account on) and I am not really in the mode to make some new accounts when I get good enough sounds from here. I do wish that people could post music here because it is nice to hear something different for a change(Nothing that famous singers sing like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, or Justin Bieber, I DO NOT LIKE THERE MUSIC AT ALL). I don't really care for Soundcloud because a lot of the time when I want to listen to someone's music they are speaking another language and I hate it when people post comments at certain parts in the project it automatically pops up.

If you have so many issues with creating accounts on other sites, why not let your collab partner post your collective work, heh? - there you go: Problem solved.
No one will be uploading music onto Freesound (collabs or not) because it is not allowed and the mods (myself included) will make sure it is rejected. This is not going to change. It is not even under my control if I wanted to change it (and I don't). Sorry.
Not meaning to be rude, but if you have further questions please PM me instead. - This thread was supposed to be a place fo rpeople to post to say they are interested to join the Collab Collective and it is instead turning into a full blown discussion which might put others off from signing up.
Sorry about that, I do a lot of the time derail threads. But I don't even like going on Soundcloud or other sites, it wastes my time
certainly count me in, I'm not always the fastest respondent but I can produce nifty quickly when i hear the news I think so heads up and keep me posted, looking forward to another collab project soon ^_^
add me at skype i'm always there snapper4298, tell me you're from freesound and not some nut-job lol
peace
I yam in.
About myself: 0 motivation, probably a bad collab partner, but decent at springing random ideas.
Use Reason, Cubase and Audition (I only use audition because it's got the best noise removal plug I've ever used. If you guys know of any other, please let me know, I see it pointless to have one program sit there and do just one thing).
I do not record or synthesize much, not lately anyway, but looking for a little bit of push. Actually a lot of it. Looking forward to this!
