Dear friends and Daring Freesounders
There has been a lot going on and I have not been around as much as I would like.
I do not think Dare 26 has run out of steam yet, but for those more musically included, it is time a new musical dare shows up.
(by the way, there will be another non-musical dare launched shortly)...
I keep this dare as simple as possible. For this one, there is also no deadline.
This dare is entirely inspird by the fact that I have well on teh way a cmoposition that was inspired by two random samples from Freesound and I have 2 others that I have started but am unable to progress at this time.
How does it work?
The idea is to listen to samples from Freesound until you find two that work well together.
You listen to the sample previews straight from your web browser, then download any sounds that have potential.
For example, open 2 windows and in each one press the "random sample" button. You can keep doing this until you find 2 that work.
My favorite process is to go to the sounds tab and listen to recently uploaded sounds. On that screen you have several previews, so is easy to play several sounds in sequence or overlapping.
To be honest, this process works best if one of the sounds is a musical/rhythmic loop and then you are just looking to find something that goes well with it. So, yeah, go ahead a cheat a little bit by looking for a loop and another random sound. That is allowed too.
But to be honest, loops are uploaded so frequently that at least one will almost surely be on the recent sounds area.
Once you got your musical piece, upload it somewhere (not Freesound).
We strongly prefer Soundcloud, since most of the Dares are there (pun intended). But if you don't use Soundcloud and want to upload somewhere else, that is fine too.
Then post on this thread with a link to your piece.
IMPORTANT BITS:
- If you use Samples from Freesound (or others requiring attribution) please give adequate attribution.
- Use this thread for links to your piece only. For everything else use the discussion thread:
http://www.freesound.org/forum/dare-the-community/35054/?page=1#post74640
- I said it before, but say it again: do not upload music to Freesound.
- No deadline
- And by the way, why not check again who registered for the Collab Collecite and see if you can get a collab going?

My 2 samples

This is my first Dare. I used Audacity, SP-404 and KP3.
If I have broken any rules - tell me.
Once I get started I finish.
No regrets. Record and forget...
I have no idea of what you are going to create.
Like diving into unknown water.
Is there a freesound group on Soundcloud...?

There used to be one, but the one who ran it is sorta MIA. Life probably got in the way.

This is a great track. Great result and also you used ONLY 2 samples. Also unusual as most people participating in the Dares use software, but you have created your track using 2 samples and 2 pieces of hardware. - Well done. And wecome to the Freesound Dares !
The Freesound dares used to go on this Soundcloud group:
http://soundcloud.com/groups/freesound-dares
Although Afleetingspec says that it is no longer in use, that may not be correct. - We have not had a musical dare for a considerable time. I would suggest you try posting yout piece to this group and see if it gets accepted. - I am sure that Freesound / Soundcloud user is still around...
And again, congratulations on a great piece and elcome to the dares!
Thanks for the kind words AlienXXX.
About the soundcloud group. I could join, but not add a track. I guess someone has to accept it. It was a year since anyone got accepted…
Well, the Soundcloud user running that group has to manually accept any tracks submitted.
As I said, there has also been a longtime since the last music pieces created for Freesound dares. So this might re-start the whole thing. Lets be patient for a few days and see what happens.

EDIT: Actually she just mentioned a "solo" account, whatever that meant at the time.

Used software:
* Granite VSTi
* ValhallaRoom VST
* Voxengo Pristine Space
* M-RGT Ambitron VSTi
Here is my submission:
https://soundcloud.com/escortmarius/dare27psycokiller
I used the following samples:
www.freesound.org/people/ricemutt/sounds/23945/
www.freesound.org/people/arseniiv/sounds/195947/
and added an extra sample for the finishing tough:
www.freesound.org/people/Jovica/sounds/2338/
I loaded the samples in Flstudios sampler and recorded everything live... using my GEM MK300-M organ as a midi controller...
I added some reverb, delay, distorsion, compressor, a phaser and finaly a limiter to the master channel.
Its fun to use samples playing them with a keyboard... kinda opened a new door for me..
Dear friends and daring Freesounders
After a considerable long abscence due to a house move and the need to install a new browser so I could continue to use Soundcloud (grrrrrr!) I am back with a new dare entry and collab effort.
This track uses sounds from Dare-26, but really is an entry for Dare-27 (since 26 was only for sound creation, not music pieces...)
So, here it is
http://soundcloud.com/alienxxx/a-random-act-of-creativity
Check the Soundcloud description to know what samples where used.
Do yourself a favor and plug these in on loop. Put me in a trance...

Your challenge is accepted!
(Making a track with these two random samples)
OK, here's mine:
https://soundcloud.com/jezkova/lostinthewoods
I used four samples:
216669__patricklieberkind__distant-sad-piano.wav
242109__unfa__padsynth-forcefield-loop-02.flac
242410__zabuhailo__ring-bell-morskoi-volk-bar2.flac
242491__moloch777__voice-of-birds-recorded-in-the-forest.wav
And a few effects. Enjoy! Or don't! I have no control of what happens now!
speck, that's great! transfixed I was. keep up the good work, I'm liking this one.
here goes, my first submission in what seems forever!
https://soundcloud.com/chalkwoman/xo-gama-dare-27
samples used;
www.freesound.org/people/ERH/sounds/163514/
effects; cut, looped, rearranged, time stretched, delay, pitch, EQ, bit-crusher, flange, phaser & chorus
www.freesound.org/people/Crogman/sounds/131715/#
effects; cut, looped, rearranged, reversed, pitch, EQ & Avocado glitch filter
this was really fun, and very challenging, as I haven't worked on a dare in about two years, and I haven't made any music in almost 9 months!
thanks AlienXXX for the amazing dares, as always
Ray

I did quit Soundcloud for endless troubles while loggin in with Firefox.
It seems to me that many new or re-designed websites are tailored on Explorer and Chrome only.
I can't stand such ignorant and bossy behaviour / some companies are already enough powerful, don't need help to grow more. OpenSource is more than software-for-free, it's an ethical declaration. Biodiversity in the net is a need, just like in culture.
Sorry for FS friends, I did like to participate - but Dares topics are too technical for me; and I gave up fighting with latency, too much hw-sw details to manage. But I always give a play to your compositions, gems are everywhere.
