Dear friends and daring FreesoundersAfter a considerable long abscence due to a house move and the need to install a new browser so I could continue to use Soundcloud (grrrrrr!) I am back with a new dare entry and collab effort.
I did quit Soundcloud for endless troubles while loggin in with Firefox.
It seems to me that many new or re-designed websites are tailored on Explorer and Chrome only.
I can't stand such ignorant and bossy behaviour / some companies are already enough powerful, don't need help to grow more. OpenSource is more than software-for-free, it's an ethical declaration. Biodiversity in the net is a need, just like in culture.Sorry for FS friends, I did like to participate - but Dares topics are too technical for me; and I gave up fighting with latency, too much hw-sw details to manage. But I always give a play to your compositions, gems are everywhere.

Hi Cajo
Submissions to Soundcloud are preferred, but submissions in other places are acceptable too: CCMixter, Internet Archive,...
As long as others can listen without having to sign up to the website. Great if downloads are possible. So, please don't let soundcloud put you off or prevent you from entering the dares.
As for the general comments on browser compatibility... We seem to have gone back 20 years with some websites only working on Explorer, others only working on Netscape.
What happened to global standards?Ultimately, this is a passing fashion, as I don't think people will put up for very long with needing 3 browsers on their computers so they can use the internet.
There are plenty of options there, and people will shift to the ones that are easier to use. So beware soundcloud (and all other websites)!
I tihk the loss of market share will eventually push these sites back into universal compatibility. But might take a couple of years.

On the dare technicalities, I hear you, but I'd love to hear what you can come up with even if you don't adhere strictly to the rules!
afleetingspeck wrote:Not entirely sure why you'd call such behavior bossy. A business needs to grow and if there's a mass exodus of users to a browsing tool, companies must follow or (in many cases) be wiped out.
In the end, fortunately or unfortunately, it's all about the consumer. The minority has had a history of having to deal with frustrations on such fronts, but that's simply the way of things. On the dare technicalities, I hear you, but I'd love to hear what you can come up with even if you don't adhere strictly to the rules!
it's a wide topic in a fast changing scenario.
2014 is the year of mobile surpassing desktop in internet connections.
But different analysis confirm Firefox as the third browser after Ex e Chr with a rough 20% of the market - so, as one in the 20% using Firefox I have all the rights to call this policies "bossy".
ok, I will try some free experiment around dares - just too many sw-hw trouble... I'm turning analogic
Hi cajo
Sorry, did you say "analogic" or "anti-logic"? - just kidding
Analogue is good. Everyone should have at least one piece of analogue stuff. Even if it is just one of Korg's mini-synths like the monotron.
Anyway. No pressure to enter the dares.
It has to be fun. So don't force yourself. Do whatever you like and whatever inspires you.
But keep in touch, tell us what you are up to and post links if you want.
