There used to be a freesound IRC channel on freenode...
http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=232
Looks like there was even an IRC applet on the site at one point.
It's still registered but I don't think anyone goes there anymore.
Hi,
I also am an occasional sound user, and love the variety.
And like many, I love a good fart sound.... BUT, why is it that Fart sounds and potty noises show up in all my searches????????
I was searching for ocean liner, ship sounds and was amazed by the number of occurrences!!!
isn't there a way to clean the search cross-reference?
Thanks
pbrian

Advanced search hintsBy adding a minus sign before a term you can find results without that term. For example "apple -pear" finds sounds with "apple", but not "pear" in the description.
My answer to the OP would simply be, anyone and everyone who downloads them. A library is a library is a library. My local one has more books than I'll ever need, and thousands that I consider totally useless.
But I think a better answer for Markus would be:- It's not who needs all these sounds, but why are they here. And my answer is that I believe that lots of folks want to give something back to the big ol' community that is the internet. And contributions such as those of Noisecollector, Timbre, klankbeeld, and many others are epic in their generosity.
Personally, I've been using Ubuntu Linux for nearly 5 years now, and enjoy the 'sharing' ethos of the whole thing. (and the cheapness  ) So, for me, I hope my contribution is useful to someone, just once, And if it is, it has made my minute!
I have some ideas, so maybe I'll get into field recordings too.
I say:
Life is meaningless. So, do something with it.
And take what you can use.
Haha, I guess there's a sample for everyone. I love finding a high quality sample on here of metal tinkling or plastic being stretched though... I granulated a sample from Eftos of metal tinkling, and I think I found how the Transformers movies got their sound effects!
Ironically, in spite of what I posted above. I didn't find this site because I want sounds to download. I just wanted a place to upload. So most sounds on here are actually useless to me. But it's fun to browse around and listen anyway.
