Hello!
I like your project very much and some sounds helped me really out by producing different videos, but:
Neally 95% of all sounds are total useless! All these electronic voices fpr example, saying nonsense. Or all these electronic sounds, where I am sure that they are randomly produced.
("Oh, lets see what happens, when I turn this knob on my nice soundprogram... oh - surprise - yet another sound! .. lets upload it! - Cool I'm so good! 13445 different sounds on one day! I must be a real talent!"
Nobody needs these sounds! Not that many!
It would be great to improve the general quality of the sounds. Dont upload everything!
Many greetings,
MARKUS

Dont upload everything!
I'm not sure if a got this post right. What's wrong with having a vast collections to chose sounds from? How on earth can someone decide that he's qualified to decide what's useful (for others) and what's not? How can people who have uploaded 0 files critize the qiality of samples that others took the trouble to share? What's the meaning of life? Is this world gone crazy? Is there intelligent life on Earth? My Goodness, too many questions
OK, sorry, I was angry about something else that has nothing to do with your sounds and then I did not find what I was looking for (an ambient sound of a meeting in a room - of course very special...) and just found all these sythesizer-things... So sorry for my posting...
Keep up the good work!

dear FREESOUND
this project is just what we (everyone) needs:
a database of collected sounds; as time progresses this will become a vast historical document.
so perhaps a beep (or squelch) today is tomorrows GOLD.
who knows.
also, there are all kinds of "odds n ends" -type sounds here that totally fit the bill for small or underfunded audio/video projects that can't make it to the field to get source audio.
thank you all

i know he's appologised, but i gotta make this comment, as dobroide said, who can decide, and if they could, why would a ambiant meeting be helpful?
I think, there is a little bit truth in Moorheads commend. The count - relation between synthetic created sounds and field-recording (i know there is a discussion about the definition of this word) is almost on the synthetic side.
It would be useful to motivate the users to create field-recording (non-synthetic) sounds. That does not mean that the synth - sounds are not useful. I like them and I will include a lot these sounds in my readioplay. In many circumstances it is much better than realistic sounds.

more than half of the people coming to freesound come to freesound because they want to make music with the files. Many people ONLY download synthetic sounds, many only download drum sounds.
Although I love field recordings, I think that the geotagging is already more than enough an incentive for people to add their field recordings to freesound.

Hi mates,
I´m a newbie - I just discovered this site. And what to tell you - it´s awesome
This is the first site I´ve ever seen with FREE PROFESSIONELL samples. I thought this isn´t possible.....
So a big thanks for the high quality and pls continue with your platform.

Wowzers to those useless things (from one that produces either useless sounds and field recordings!) We salute you, Freesound Project!
I wonder if there are any sounds on Freesound that have NEVER been downloaded.
I suspect there aren't many of those.
I have 2 sounds that only 4 people downloaded... but still - four people found them useful.

where are your uploads again?
don't bitch if you aren't providing.
fact of the matter is there's something here for everyone.
but more to the point. for someone who's here trying to download OTHER PEOPLES WORK BECAUSE YOURE TO LAZY TO DO IT YOURSELF
speaks volumes about you.
and noooooo bram i am not yelling at the guy. i am just keeping it in prespective for him
Well I just added a few new packs and am working on some new stuff after a bit of a break in the useless bleep and bloop creation scene. I can tell you that some of the samples people pay for are crap as well... All sounds have potential.... I have sounds all over the web now that were useless to me on my hard drive but someone needed it for a movie or a song or a video game or a web site or.... well you get the point.... I will be adding more chords to my acoustic guitar pack and some weird sounds I made with a guitar chord, a bass processor and various objects in my living room... Not everyone has the time or know how to download software and "randomly tweak knobs" to get usefull sounds, and for the record I spen at least an hour in deep meditation before each tweaking of my knob. And the actual number of sounds is less than 13445... I might do 100 in one day but I am no Jovica... I accept your apology and I do not use the "quote" feature for the same reason it took me a few years to get into VST's... (weird quirk)... The great thing about this site is that it makes it possible for low budget artists to have access to sounds that might only be available to studios and production companies and be able to use them without paying someone... I put all my sounds in CC for recognition only... And speaking of which, has anyone noticed that an already signed artist or big time producer has not used any of these sounds since the project started? Or have they?...
Think of it this way...my cousin had a plumbing business whose motto was "Your crap is my bread and butter".
Some of those useless sounds have been downloaded, so apparently they were used for something...apologizing after attacking a large group of people who spend a LOT of time creating this stuff is almost moot. It's better to just keep whatever frustrations you may be having off of the forums - especially if those frustrations are really aimed at something else.
I think you need to get off of the pot and start adding sounds before you can criticize the files that are available (for FREE mind you).
I personaly feel that there are alot of 'noise' sounds that clog up the database
We have lots of great stuff, sounds for and from many purposes, but I do question the merit of sounds that are more like electronic compositions than actual sounds.
Maybe there is some way that all these many "electro experiment" sounds can be tagged or designated to sit at the bottom of a search? Some searches dont yield particularly helpful results. Maybe this is in part the result of 'catch all' tagging?
Sounds with discernable instrumental use are good, as are any field recordings or foley sounds, and I can understand drum loops are useful to some. It is sounds like "I recorded my cat and then used all my plug ins to make it sound like television interference" that I believe are less useful and clog up the searches.
It would seem a collossal task to go through the collection, so I doubt any changes will be made.
In conclusion, the site is great, and I only want to see it improve.
As far as usefullness it is relevant to the downloader. Some people may have different needs that evolve and change depending on what sounds they need to accomplish a specific sonic task... As for tagging them, you can tag them anything you want... I mean, you can tag other people's sounds... Let us know when you are done! If you search and then filter the results you can sort through unwanted items... another suggestion is to check out the packs...

They have things grouped in zipped folders for easy download... and they are all free...
Some ideas:
- maybe a poll could shed some light on what types of sounds people would like to see more of on FreeSound?
- maybe a monthly "special" could also help (setting a theme/keyword/type/what not...) as in: "This month, we encourage people to upload sounds that ...description... Of course, everything else is useful too!"
My 2 cents... Haven't been active lately around here, so maybe this was done before?

We have the sample request forum; shouldn't that suffice?
