Hello!
I have a query that has been annoying me for some time !
I was wondering if all the sounds that you have taken or used, must you credit them, if you have used some of them for a music project, which your are making for money use ? e.g an album or single etc...do you have to credit EVERYPERSON etc, or is credit not due in this case ?
Thanks.
Lesodem
p.s can someone point me to some good software for some EBM/dance music ? I am using FL studio, it's the shittiest program ever
Depends which method of working suits you. Plenty of options, how do you want to work? Also, are you mac or PC? I use Logic, and a little of Reason and Live.
I'm sure someone better informed than me will tell you about crediting poeple, though I would say its good karma to let them know

I know it isn't nice not to credit *strong believer in karma* but cannot I not put "Sounds provided by Freesound?"

...maybe if you make it a URL and list the credits on the page... maybe? ....perhaps? ...possibly?

Perhaps.
But what if I use TONS of sounds, it will look silly.
oh..dear...
But if it IS "Free" sound it shouldn't have a dire need to be credited should it ?
Karma and courtesy - if it was the other way round, wouldn't you like to be credited?
I personally think you should contact the sound authors, tell them you are using their sound ask what they are happy with.
If you asked me, I would tell you to give me a thanks and that would be fine. I think more than anything else, its good for people to know their sound is being used, and for what.
I am not a mod, but yes you do have to currently credit the people for the sounds.
This is the license you are using the sounds under http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/
FreeSound may go through some changes to the licensed use of sound. Some may even go public domain. Till then you must give credit and following Sampling 1.0+'s license.
In the legal code section it states:
"Such credit may be implemented in any reasonable manner; provided, however, that in the case of a Derivative Work or Collective Work, at a minimum such credit will appear where any other comparable authorship credit appears and in a manner at least as prominent as such other comparable authorship credit."
I have seen mainstream bands credit others for samples they have taken in the CDs sleaves.
If its still a huge concern to credit the sounds you have one other option. You can contact each individual author and ask if you can use their sound without giving credit on your work. Some may freely give it to you, others may say no and others may let you do that if you pay them some money. Another thing you could try is negotiating just to put the creators' sounds on your website and linking to them would be satsfactory for them.(you have to ask them)
I would be very careful about your use of downloaded sounds from places. You need to read their terms of use. Some places claim sounds are free but they really want you to pay for them even though their site may confuse you into thinking otherwise.
Thank you soundhead, that is correct. You MUST credit the authors of all the samples that you use, although it seems to be generally permissible to do something like this:
Incorporates sounds by Author A, Author B, Author C...
and provide a full list somewhere else, like a website.
