Sound Effects Specialists
The 0 A.D. Audio Team is looking for several dedicated sound effects specialists to provide original audio assets for this massive RTS focusing on the years 500 B.C. to 500 A.D.
Brief description:
Wildfire Games (WFG) is in the process of developing a freeware game. The name of this project is 0 A.D. ("zero ey-dee"), a historically based Real Time Strategy game focusing on the years 500 B.C. to 500 A.D. The game will be released in two parts: the first exploring B.C. and the second A.D.
In short, it is a war/economy strategy game allowing you to recreate or rewrite the ancient history of western civilisations.
Some key features of 0 A.D. are:
Historical accuracy
6 unique civilisations
Comprehensive editor
Several multiplayer modes
Seasons and weather
Provinces and territories
Realistic maps/terrain
Realistic naval warfare
Target aim:
Freeware
Compensation:
This project offers a fertile development environment allowing for experience and growth in the game industry, as well as the chance to choose an area of specialty within the field of sound effects editing and sound design that suits your passion and direction. This is no financial compensation attached to working on this freeware title.
Technology:
An Audio engine built on OpenAL is ready for use; EAX may later be integrated to accomplish certain special effects.
Talent needed:
You must be able to provide examples of work you are capable of doing.
All sounds should be sourced by you personally, using creative foley techniques and manipulated using your sound editing prowess.
You should be dedicated to creative use of sound in multimedia applications, willing to work collaboratively on a team, have a positive attitude, and be able to accept honest constructive criticism and praise from a group of passionate game makers and players.
Expectations:
There are currently about 700 expected sounds managed by a massive spreadsheet that is used to communicate specifics about the sounds and their implementation. Assignments will be given along with deadlines for completion and/or work in progress submission.
You will be asked to give WFG permission to use material that you create for this project. If you leave the project, WFG is able to retain the work completed so far, and continue to build upon it.
You will retain all rights to your own work, and are free to reuse in your own projects.
Team structure:
The Audio Team is comprised of 3 areas of sound implementation: Music, Voice-Over, and Sound Effects. Each of these areas is coming out of various stages of pre-production with a strong sense of the path that lies ahead.
Ill be coordinating the sound effects development and implementation.

The audio department is standing at the beginning of a great undertaking, and it's time to find the right people to provide top-quality sound effects that will give life to a time in history that has never been heard before.
