Hello all,
There doesn't seem to be any info online about contributing to the server end of freesound. While I certainly can't promise anything, I work for and am a student at NYU, and I have a feeling I could pull something off. (work as a web/software developer for the housing department, and we have /tons/ of resources)
The trickiest part is writing the load-sharing software. Once this is done properly, anybody can (theoretically) plug in a server, give the project the ip/username/password, and it would just start sharing the load.
I'm just putting it out there. I'd like freesound to be really fast. I'm really strapped for time right now between work, school, and musical ventures, but I might find some time for freesound in the next few months. We could start by quietly setting up a test server (that wouldn't get hit a lot so it would fly under the network security radar) and writing the software.
Interested in discussing?
best,
Kevin
Kevin,
we are in the process of prepping the server for mirroring. Right now it's a bit hard to mirror due to the internal data layout. This is being worked on. Once we have the mirrors we will be sending around email to find space around the globe.
That said, freesound's bandwidth usage is pretty hefty, so you might want to ask your sysadmins

Cool.
Let me know when you're looking, we'll see what we can pull off.
