Freesound Forums

Hi all.

Any time a discussion has come up in the freesound forums regarding how people organize their sound libraries, it has typically been my suggestion/intention to run an private copy of Freesound in my own studio.

As I understand it, Freesound 2 code is no longer shackled by any non-free components like the previous version was, and I have seen the sourcecode is available out there along with some install-ables and documentation.

Even though I am a computer geek by trade (25+ years), my unix/linux skills have not remained very current, so when I try to get Freesound 2 running using the existing documentation, the system does not seem to function, and it is not clear to me what component(s) isn't happy.

Is there anyone out there who potentially shares the same interest in using freesound in this way that we might work together to make a working local copy of Freesound? I will probably be forced to also pick Brams brain during this process, but I know the creators are busy with other things (and keeping Freesound.org running smooth, etc) so I didnt want to bug them exclusively if there is assistance available elsewhere.

The Virtual Machine of my first attempt has since been deleted, but thought I would ask in here before I make another attempt at it.

Perhaps you could join http://groups.google.com/group/freesound-dev and ask (us) there? That way you could document your changes/fixes and add to the documentation too, helping fellow want-to-be-freesound-coders.

To be honest I would love if more people added to the freesound codebase...!

A warning: getting freesound running is not for the faint-of-heart!

And for your information: the core freesound team is now 4 people, not just me anymore. There is Gerard, Frederic, Stelios and me.

Cool Bram. I didn't think to ask for the address of the Forum, I assumed that was a private thing.

I'm not for the faint of heart, but some linux conventions do escape me.
