Hello everyone,
I am a third year sociology student at the London School of Economics, and I'm doing a small sociological project this year. I've been interested in free software for a while now, so I chose the application of similar ideas to cultural production as my topic. Sites such as Freesound seem like excellent illustrations of these ideas in practice.
It would be helpful for my project if some of you people would be willing to spare a couple of minutes of your time to answer a few questions about your use of Freesound. If you could send your replies as private messages here on Freesound (my name here is wickermoomin), it would be most convenient for me. My email address is at the end of this post as well if you want to contact me that way. The questions are the following:
1. Personal information: age, location and profession? (this is voluntary, you can leave some or all of these blank)
2. How long ago, approximately, did you discover Freesound?
3. How often do you visit the Freesound website on average? (pick one option)
- daily
- less than daily but at least once a week
- less than once a week but at least once a month
- less than once a month
- average difficult to determine (e.g. use is on a project basis or something similar)
4. For what purpose do you mainly use Freesound? (e.g. for making music, film projects, personal enjoyment, ...)
5. Do you mainly use Freesound for commercial or noncommercial purposes, or both equally?
6. Would you say that you are interested in licensing and copyright questions more widely as a social issue (ie. not just related to your own work)?
7. Have you met other Freesound users offline, face to face?
8. Do you use any other sharing sites that use similar non-restrictive licensing? If so, which sites?
9. Personally, do you believe sites like Freesound are part of a larger 'open source' movement, and if so, what are your thoughts on the future and importance of this movement?
10. Any other thoughts/comments?
Let me know if you do not wish to be directly quoted (I can then use your answers as background information), or if you have any other wishes about the use of your answers.
Many thanks to anyone who wishes to take part! If interested, I can send a PDF file of my project once it's been marked.
Best,
Matti Minkkinen

Sent to you in an e-mail, let me know when you get it!
Already got a few replies, thanks to everyone who took part. I'm still open to more respondents if anyone wants to spend a few minutes of their time doing this.
Cheers,
Matti
