after a night of late night hacking it looks like all is going well...
mbazzy: your test file was very welcome! I used to to fix the engine (had to write a small piece of C++ code to handle the multiple channels).
One thing:
how do you guys see the handling of the preview? Do I just use the "first two"channels of the audio? There's no way to have surround previews obviously, as surround mp3 isn't an option.

Bram, Thanks for your tests with multichannel files!
Next week I will post an embedded multichannel wav file, to see if it works like the AIF file. I intend to create a series of multichannel chord pad sounds suitable for ambient if all works out.
About your preview problem with multichannel files, I know that Cubase & Wavelab offer the possibility to create a 2 channel mixdown version of a multi-channel file... I do not know whether other programs offer the same possibility... I think if you only offer the first two channels as a preview, there would be to much content lost, so I would prefer a kind of mixdown... But of course, it would have to be possible....
How about offering a preview of the front LR and a preview for the rear LR. Center and LFC wouldn't need a preview.
I think the idea of Sonic is a good one if a mixdown is not possible.
I just added 10 drones as surround wav files.... let's see how they get in the database....
Have had good and very interesting fun with surround in general and Kinetic (http://www.kineticsoundsystem.com/ ) in particular so far ... an interesting field at the least .
Personnally I have no access to one of the higher end DAW's or encoders for surround (DTS etc) , however I wondered if there are any encoders (for Mac OsX) that are available for surround for more marginal pricetags (or free) ...
Does max/Msp or Pd allow for embedded surround encoding ? I know Max isn't for free , but if it supports this natively, the price tag becomes far more attractive ...
Anyone that can enlighten this surround grasshopper .
Hi, I too am interested in this. I record multichannel patches in pd with writesf~. the resulting sound file is interleaved and I follow the ITU standard
1 - L
2 - R
3 - Center
4 - sub
5 - L side
6 - R side
7 - L back
8 - R back
I have yet to upload anything. Is there anything I should be aware of that hasn't been addressed?
