hello all,
I am taking the liberty to point you to a somewhat similar project: www.xeno-canto.org
Bob Planque and myself started it 2 years back, and it is turning into a nice resource we think. It may be of interest to you.
It is a site where people share sounds of neotropical birds (quite a few sounds of quite a few species!) Many of the contributors are actually from the neotropics, some are professional bird-people (guides, ornithologists, some even sell bird sounds!), most are just bird sound enthusiasts.
The idea is to turn it into a real sound guide, that allows ID of unknown sounds, so we are trying to develop tools to compare/describe sounds. We've also come up with several ways of searching through the sound archive using a database that has all kinds of life-history information and geographical info supplied by the users.
We are planning to expand to other regions, initially North-America, but we're not in a hurry.
Do check it out!
