I've been meaning to getting around to contributing some more noise/sound to the site, but at the same time I don't want to clog the site with junk.
I know one man's trash is another treasure but I want to try a little better than hope there's a little treasure in a ton of trash.
Is just rambling instrument noise good or just a waste?
Sample note packs much more useful or not?
Other sounds?
In my experience nothing is junk it's all relative and someone will find whatever you do useful. The point is that although a lot of experienced sound people use freesound but also a lot of people who cannot make their own sounds. That said you will know what you believe is your best stuff and I would start with that. If you look at the most popular downloads over 7 days there are always samples of thunder, record scratches, amen breaks, and so on so I would say don't go there unless you have something really different as it has been done very well already.
What I like to hear on freesound are things that stand out as being different from the run of the mill but that stuff is needed anyway. So just upload some sounds and see how it goes. One thing is for sure - the best stuff is not often the most popular - beauty is in the roses and the thorns. And ignore the guys who rate your stuff low but don't tell you why - they have probably never made a sound in their lives. Genuine freesounders will give constructive criticism and help anybody.
Look forward to your sounds.
I'm not clowning
