Hello sample creators,
I'm a composer interested in working with some of these wonderful samples here for commercial usage. I would adapt the sample to traditional instrumental music or vice versa. A commercial is usually between 15s and 60s, but the sample would be used for a couple of sec only. I would like to know, if I want to use one of your samples, what would expect in return? One thing I can propose, is to put the commercial up on my website guybacos.com and crediting the author specifically for his contribution. I'd also give credit to "thefreesoundproject". It is impossible to credit a name on a commercial since no names ever appears with the ad. If you have other propositions please be my guest.
You could leave me a message here or email me at gbacos@sympatico.ca
Thanks,
Guy Bacos

I think your best bet is to decide what you want to do with samples (maybe even DO it) and then ask the people who's samples you've used if it's okay. As long as you haven't already sold it! I know I'd be fine with somebody using my samples commercially, as long as they ask if it's alright with me.
Thanks for the reply.
This seems the best solution off hand and maybe I may have no choice, but the fact is, it could be a risky way of working. The whole process of scoring a commercial takes between 2 to 48 hours on average, most of these are high profile commercials, if the client likes what he hears I'd then have to contact the owner of the sample for permission, at this point it was only to see if the client likes the track, so no harm done. If for some reason the owner of the sample and I cannot come to an agreement (which is unlikely but a possibility) I will look very foolish in front of the client and more so the commercial agency hireing me. There is too little time to ask permission for the sample before presenting it, once the job is given it's a race to the finish line, if I have to wait for a reply from the owner I could loose a lot a valuable time, there is just not enough time to go through this process before and afterwards is risky. Ideally would be for me to have the green light with some users here, a list of names, and if they are willing to trust me I'd contact them whenever I'd use one of their samples. I'm an honest guy, I certainly wouldn't want to make anyone unhappy here by doing something illegal.

I would first pick the samples I like to use, then ask their authors if it would be okay to use them, and THEN produce the commercial.
Once again this may look like the obvious solution at first but the fact is, I won't be choosing from a dozen samples but among hundresds and thousands, and for the reasons mentioned in my previous posts that's just not practical. But seems I won't have any choice.
Thanks for your attention.
Cheers!
Guy
Alright Guy, I guess then the best way for you to go about this is to find contributors who have a few samples you might eventually want to use, and forge some sort of deal with them beforehand. Unfortunately there's no really easy way to do all this. Good luck though!
If you can use any of my samples, go ahead. Credits on your site would be great.
