So I found a couple sounds I like, but when I download them, I get them in a file that my computer cannot open or read. Is there anyway to download a .wav file of the sound?
Thanks
can convert from many formats to wav format using Audacity which is free ... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Thanks! But I still have a problem: when I try to import a .flac file, I can't import the entire folder, only individual docs. How can I import/open the entire sound into Audacity?
I don't think Audacity does batch processing, (i.e. convert every audio file in a folder to another format).
There are audio converter programs which will do that,
http://encrypted.google.com/search?q=audio+converter+batch+open+source
but watch out some have strings attached: freebies are not all free of malware like Audacity.
About multiple file opening:
You can't pick a folder, but you can enter it and select all; if you did a File Open, you'll get each sound in a separate window; if you did a File Import Audio, you'll get all the sounds in the same window.
About converters and Audacity:
True converters are the easiest and best option, but as a last resort you could build a Chain (it's like a macro) in Audacity, do an Apply to Files, and select them all.
Quote from Steve, Audacity Senior Forum Staff ...
"I'd not be using Audacity for batch converting files.
Yes it can be done, but it's like banging in nails with a shoe".

Hehe I had read that quote, I was just answering on the technical possibility ("I don't think Audacity does batch processing"), not feasibility ("as a last resort")
Well I've tried that a couple times, but it just won't work. I get this error message: "Audacity did not recognize the type of file... If it is uncompressed, try importing it using 'Import Raw.'"When I try to do it using Import Raw, I can only do 1 file at a time, and there are just these short static noises. The sound I'm trying to convert is: Grenade Pin Pull.FLAC by CGEffex_files (http://www.freesound.org/people/CGEffex/sounds/93837/). It's got a ton of different files in it, including JPEG Images, documents, JavaScript Files, HTMLs, PNGs... I've tried using Roxio Audio Converter, but it crashes when I try to open the folder. Or I get some error message that disappears before I can read it...

you're accidentally saving the Freesound web page (which has jpegs javascript etc).
login to Freesound, then (right mouse button) click on the link below and select "save link as" ...
