Doctor:Nurse, do we have a pulse?
Nurse:Negative, doctor
Doctor: Oh lawd, there is no sign of heart beat?
Nurse: None at all
Doctor: I have failed.....(*becomes an alcoholic*)
The truth is hard to swallow. Free sound forum R.I.P
I am a mechanic not a doctor, but are you oke???
It's not dying, it's just lazy and/or lives slower than other forums.
On the other hand, FS is about sounds not words, isn't it?

The only other forum category that can make some noise is the freesound dares, and I think you missed dare 17.
I'd just say that freesound has been able to retain users (although I don't have enough stats to back it up) and those users have become smarter with the site over time. Which is why the lower levels of forum activity.
Oh, everybody says any forum other than facebook or whatsap is dying.
I blame facebook and smartphones for the death of real quality forums.

I blame laziness
If it was laziness, facebook and whatsap would also be "dieing".
Actually I also blame only being able to post one thing in five minutes, as this forum allows one to. I've posted here once then saw another topic I needed to reply to, but couldn't. So I leave it and then forget or it passes. Is it the intention of the owner of this forum that people not really post much? Because it seems it's severely bottlenecked.
See, I posted this now, and now I'll have to go outside and play and go on with my day because I can't post anything else again for now.
No, I'm not going to sit here and wait for five minutes then post again. Some of us have a life, or like to think so.

This is a measure put in place to counter spamming. Its there for a reason.
I've never had a problem with it.
I'm enjoying the spam free threads these days, apart from the odd person going a little barking mad and posting random nonsense

These anti-spam measures recently put in place would not apply to existing users with 50 posts already and who have been with us for a year.
New users however, need to build up their reputation before yhey can post large amounts.
If you are here for a reason, you will be patient.
If your posting just to kill time, then go to Facebook
What if I have a reason and it is to kill time?
Or better yet, what if I have a reason, but by posting in any forum, this one or another, IS what killing time is, wherefore should I go to then?
Well since I'm only going to post once because I can only post once without waiting, I'll just make one long post instead of many short ones. Tell you my life story or something. Ok maybe stick to the topic. Which now seems to be that old members can post to their leisure, but new ones are discouraged from feeding the forum anew? No wonder this forum is dying. As the old members grow old and tired and die off, new ones must "build a reputation". I say!!!!!
Well most people go online, look at emails, then take a look at new posts either on facebook or their specific websites of interest, shoot a few messages then dash until the next day when this is repeated. So if you have to wait 5 minutes they simply won't keep the forum alive because they'll dash before 5 minutes is up.
This reminds me of another forum I used to frequent for a while, which was very, very lively. And with lively I mean you could go back on every hour or three, and find fresh new content have sprung up, original and wondertastic.
However, as these things go, there was also a lot of fighting on that forum. It was a forum for creatives, see. Wars soon broke out over viewpoints. Especially the evil topics like religion and politics. In the name of the latter, one may kill your dearest loved one, not to mention friends and strangers online. So is the policy of those who subscribe to religion and politics towards those who are free spirited.
Well the owner and moderator of that forum got a lot of complaints by email from members, especially the old ones, that so and so, and so and so, and so and so are "bad seed" or whichever members they wanted removed. The owner, poor idiot, obliged, thinking the old members are like old friends one should keep, while discarding new friends and potential friends.
The result is that now all the creative and smart people have been removed at the request of those who have nothing to offer, that forum is dead. You think this forum is dying? Well that one is DEAD. It's a ghost forum. Still being kept online like a graveyard, but there is nothing going on. They've killed their contributors by trying to "keep the peace" or some nonsense. Now they have peace allright. No discussions whatsoever, aside from the once in two months that somebody deliberately posts out of sympathy or trying to force that forum to have some content. Beating a dead horse. No replies except for either none or one courtesy reply. Personally I've lost all respect for what I once thought was a haven. It's a piece of garbigual crap now. It would save the owner's face more if he just removes it from the internet altogether without a word.
The lesson is: ................................................ (fill in your own lesson here, whatever it meant for you).
K bye
Hello MooiFlieks.
I think the Freesound Website and forums are doing very well for creativity, but thanks for your concern.
In all that time (those looooooong 5 minutes you complain about), maybe you can do some reading of the various forums, check out the new sounds that have been posted. Maybe even leave a sound comment or two. You will see that there is a lot going on.
Maybe you missed my reply and a couple of others on that subject: the forums were having spam problems. At one point, spammers were creating new accounts faster than the webmasters could delete them and poluting the forums with useless spam, drowning true contents. That is now resolved, thanks to this measure.
The reason the time limit does not apply to old users is not because they are an elite, but because they are known not to be spammers.
Maybe the forums don't see a new post every 5 min. Maybe they are not fast paced enough for you.
It is up to you to decide if this place is of interest to you or not.
This is a place of free speech. You can say whatever you want. These are anti-spam measures, not censorship.
However, that does not mean the webmasters will change things everytime a new user suggests a different way of running the site or its forums.
The community here is knowledgeable, friendly and helpfull.
True, some forums die. I have seen it happen a few rimes. But i can assure you Freesound is not at risk of suffering that fate.
Those aren't spammers. They're spambots. Is this a phpbb forum? Those are the target of spambots who do nothing but register all day every day creating thousands of profiles and forum posts linking to things that low quality human beings are addicted to and actually want. The "spambot measures" included in the forum software hardly has any effect, if at all.
Anyway, if this forum isn't dying, who started this topic of the forum "dieing"? Let's not bury something alive.
Ok then, as you were. I'm gonna go drink some milk now.

Wow, long thread it became.
Doesn't looks for me like dying, dieing or anything like that (-;
(maybe the question was about "doing..." and poster suddenly passed?)
