Hello folks! I'm currently working on a video game project alone as a hobby and I'm very not that great with anything related to sound/music. So I need help for sound effect and I'm looking for someone that could help me with various sound effect production that range from sword slash to magic spell. Type of sound would be something like the playstation era, I'm not going for a chiptune sound effect.
If you're interested in helping me out, let me know and feel free to ask any question you might have.
Hello!
Aside from what's already available on Freesound (just a matter of finding the sounds that fit your needs) I might be able to produce at least some of the sounds you're looking for, and help you search around here. (There are far better helpers than me, I hope they'll join in )
From the examples you mentioned, the setting is a fantasy one, right?
Is there a sort of deadline? (a year or more, months, weeks, yesterday - eek!)
How many sounds do you think you'll need more or less? (around 20, 50, 100, more - eek!)
For the music, do you need a specifically composed soundtrack or do you think you could do with already existing music that matches a fantasy/epic setting? On SoundCloud, for instance, there are various artists publishing a lot of music of that kind, some might be interested.

there is no dead line.
number of sound would be around 30-50 maybe higher
I tried to browse freesound many times. Most of the time I come back empty handed and I'm what I like to call allergic to sound, meaning I'm really weak to it, too sensitive ears or something so it hurt to browse after a while.
For the music i can do with anything that i think will work and that I can legally use.
Its an online game so it will constantly be in development, like new area added and such.
It will start as a small game and get bigger over the years... that's my plan for now.
but if someone just wants to help a little and stop thats totally fine i'm not looking for people that want to stay part of a project for years... that would be crazy.
and yes the game is fantasy/medieval themed, that doesnt mean music can not contain stuff like electric guitar that... if its well used.

We got great "sound snipers" for that

Well, the license that will give you the least trouble is CC-BY, Creative Commons Attribution, and it's one of the supported licenses.
For each track coming with a license, you'll see the appropriate icons right next to the genre tag, in the upper right corner of the track. If you check my profile for instance ( http://soundcloud.com/copyc4t ) you'll see I've used various combinations, from lax to strict. But the good thing about the CC is that, even if a piece is released as limited to Non Commercial uses, a requester can always contact the author and find an agreement for a personal waive of the clause.
Same if you really want to make a derivative of something released as ND, No Derivatives, for instance.
So if I look at this page
license to use commercially does that mean i can pretty much use these as long as i give credit or is there other thing i should be paying attention to.
Meh, that's how it should be in theory, but then there are also songs by big names in those results (e.g. Smashing Pumpkins) Do they really allow commercial use of that song?
The new SoundCloud is losing in clarity... With the old one (now called SoundCloud Classic) the license icons were clearly visible even without going to the specific song page.
See this?
https://soundcloud.com/copyc4t/far-east-chris-connor-remix
You'll see my explicit mention of the license.
Now this, from the results of your search:
https://soundcloud.com/smashingpumpkins/a-song-for-a-son
No explicit mention of any license.
In this case though, I suspect that all rights are reserved unless otherwise mentioned.
Besides - personal rant - I'm quite disgusted by the noise level I see in the search results.
You might have better luck searching for groups related to epic rather than by tag; too many "artists" abuse tags to be more visible; well, they abuse groups too, but they are more naturally confined, especially the moderated ones.
Check this, it looks already better at least on the genre side.
https://soundcloud.com/search/groups?q=epic
Anyway, when you find an artist you might be interested in, check their profile; those open to collaboration and being featured in projects like videogames tend to state it explicitly.
If you want, I might try asking for reference to someone I follow, very focused on epic/orchestral.
Sorry if this is getting like a mud swamp, SC was friendlier to needs like yours, before the recent changes...
Hmmm... you know what? Scratch SoundCloud for now, try this:

Here's an example of a focused search:

I'm very interested in helping you out. Could you send an email to niklas@aldenaudio.se with more info on the project? It would be great to see some in-game graphics to get the feel for it.
I work professionally as a sound designer and can produce any type of sound for you.
Best regards, Niklas
Hey!
I would love to compose some original music for your game. I'm a young composer working professionally with my own studio and this is something I'd love to be involved in.
Give me an email joelpneale@gmail.com if you want to discuss this/hear some sample tracks.

hmm... I went to listen to many song on ccmixter that were under game and other kind too.
and none of the music I heard felt like they could be used in a game, normally when I listen to a music that would fit i think of what kind of situation that music could fit and if that situation or kind of place is in my game its good if its not then oh well but none of these gave me an impression or situation that would fit in a video game.
and yea i know what you mean by the CC on thats what i was looking at on soundcloud
i click the music and check if that little standing person icon is there or if it has others too.
so if it has the little standing person with nothing else does that mean its good?
like this one... i could use something like that i think
https://soundcloud.com/zi-toon/epic-horse
there was also the problem that some of these may be cover from some series that I don't know about
should these really be listen under CC?
thanks affe110 and joelneale i sent you a email both.

there was also the problem that some of these may be cover from some series that I don't know about should these really be listen under CC?(Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer) In doubt, make sure you ask the authors; if they claim it's original work, you are acting in good faith. So, even if you'd be the first contacted about an eventual infringement, you could prove your "bona fide" and point to the real culprit.
Anyway SC is quite full of covers, and they're usually declared as such; with the internet speed and width, I don't think a fake composer could survive a lot before being spotted
nice info...
