curious I would like to see what my top ten uploads are - or maybe even be able to sort all of my uploads in order of times downloaded or even rated?
would be fun to have a few moere ways of looking at it - maybe even a filter to select who downloaded your sounds.. ie you have a 'follower' or someone who is downloading a lot of the stuff you upload..
would be interested is all!
all of a sudden I got this crazy urge to upload?!

The Freesound search can list ones most popular downloads ...
http://www.freesound.org/search/?q=martian [select "Downloads(most first)" from the drop-down menu]

In the past some people had bots which would automatically download every new sound submitted to Freesound.
So your "follower" could just be a greedy b4stard who is indiscriminately downloading everything.
haha yes - I did pm one guy who had downloaded 15,000 sounds and not uploaded one..
he told me he was serving time in prison in the US for theft...... not much hope there!
thanks for that tip!
it works - my most popular upload is by far 'footstep on wood foley '
seems foley sounds are very popular...
My most downloaded file is a... well. Try it
Wow, I never thought I could know this just by using Freesound search engine.
Could I find this way the most popular sound of all times?
Hi all,
so what is the difference between the download record on a persons own home page, and that that appears if you search for your download record? like how does the system know that something is a bot? does it count it only if a person uses the file? I don't quite get how the system works.
Cheers

Hi GGlkat
Freesound can only record which registered user downloaded a sound and when it was downloaded. It can have no idea if the downloader was a bot, or what they did with the sound once it was downloaded.
I would think on average way less than 1% of downloads are used creatively: A user might download dozens of versions of a particular category then use just one of them, or perhaps none.
My most popular old sound's been downloaded over 10,000 times but a google search (some years ago) only found a couple of dozen times where it's appeared in web stuff - youtube videos etc, where it was properly credited. I'm sure all the sounds here have been 'pirated' without credit dozens of times for every legitimate use. (In the old days of 'WAP ringtones' Google found 100s of links using my car_arrive sound.)
How many sounds are used personally at home but never used in published works can only be guessed at. I have a couple of dozen ambiences that I occasionally listen to.
