I heard a sound collector on public radio this weekend refer to three types of sound in a recording: geophonic, anthrophonic, and biophonic. The first describes sounds produced by the Earth and other elements, the second human sounds, and third that from other lifeforms. I remember reading complaints on here (or maybe laments, really) about the lack of pure sounds and places to obtain them. This guy was quantifying that loss.
Anyway, I started using that word in a sound I posted today, since it seems a simple way to refer to the human noise pollution that runs through the background of almost any field recording nowadays: anthrophonic.
