Hi -
First let me gush for a minute.
This site is one of the best things on the planet! I'm just astonished at the quality and intimacy of these sounds. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you people just don't know how much your work is appreciated.
I'm looking for a sound to accompany an animation of a single glass lens being flipped. Like at the optometrist's.
Knife scrapes almost work, some of the little kitchen sounds work well as background layer, but there's a certain zing that glass makes. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks again
Thanos
PS - I'm working in a video projection for an apocalyptic cabaret. Theatrical performance, nonprofit, etc.

I just uploaded a pack called "glass", I guess glass_mix1.aiff might help.
(the pack will level tomorrow = Saturday I hope)
Enjoy, have fun.

Beautiful sounds, hanstimm. Thanks for the suggestion.
But I'm afraid it's not quite right for this. I guess I'm looking for something less musical, more raw. If I had decent recording equipment I'd just unscrew my eyeglasses and rub the lenses together, or even stainless steel coffee cups and saucers might work.
Hi LS -
Here's two snippets of the animation (160k and 72k, mpeg1 quicktimes)

The lens flipping is just a quick transition from one sequence to another. There are like 5 transitions in all.
Don't know what the full soundtrack will be like - there is a composer working on music for this piece, but the sound effects need to be spot on.
I'm thinking the sound might be a combination of a lens rubbing against another lens, a little metallic chink/click. Probably I'm remembering the weird contraption the optometrist puts on your nose, changes lenses, flips them. Or do those things still exist.
Anyway it's pretty quick! Thanks for the interest.

Thank you! I think I can work with the sounds you uploaded. They're very close to what I had in my head.
If any of thesounds I've collected make it into the final soundtrack, I'll make sure there's attributions. But this site is still an international treasure.

Just a note - the rubbing glass sound Harri uploaded made it into my final piece. Works real nice.
That sound is a minor part of the video piece, which is a minor part of a theatrical performance, but there's a whole page in the program that says SPECIAL THANKS TO HARRI FOR THE SOUND EFFECT IN THE CLONING VIDEO . I'm not kidding. (I told the director to attribute the sound and he forgot, then he remembered just as the program went to press. Shit happens.)
If anyone's in Athens, Greece and interested in seeing 'Cabaret of Garbage' at the Altera Pars theatre in Kerameikos, drop me a note. I think it's playing for a few more weeks.
Hi -
The video is up on http://video.google.com - search for CABARET OF GARBAGE.
A note: I'm not a sound guy, okay? I'm a picture guy. Someday I'll learn how to make a better soundtrack.
Cheers -
