Welcome and well done for the contribution to a free and collaborative database of sound!
This is a moderated website, (different to a lot of other sites, i was surprised myself when i first uploaded a sound and discovered that some sites are moderated.) It's actually a good thing just be patient
There's more info on how and why moderation here . . .
http://www.freesound.org/forum/freesound-project/33076/
this means that your sound will be listened to and approved before it comes online.
This is to make sure there are no issues such as copyright etc..
this protects both the uploader and the downloader . . . a lot of different people use freesound for a lot of different projects, for example, a university student or a broke games developer can potentially use the sounds here as long as they check the license and give proper attribution where necessary ( which is a link to the sound used in the credits/description or development information)
More on licenses here in the faq http://www.freesound.org/help/faq/#licenses
Thanks again and I hope you find a lot of inspiration here )
Thank you luckylittleraven for welcoming our new member and for the quick and useful explanations.
Moderation is a bit slow at the moment. Waiting time is ~1 week.
I know it sucks, but all sounds are listened to and the descriptions/tags checked by a human moderator before being accepted.
All the mods are volunteers, giving up some of their free time to keep Freesound running while they also have busy jobs and personal lives. Sometimes there is no one available to moderate for a while and waiting times get a bit longer.
Most of the time it is ~1 or 2 days.
