Hello everybody.
I stumbled across this website while researching the history of a subject totally unrelated to sound and recording.
I was struck by a couple of threads requesting the sound of an old-fashioned Metropolitan-style police-whistle, as carried by the Bobbies of London back in Victorian times.
It is a very unique sound, and can only really be produced by the whistle itself. I have an authentic bobby whistle in my possession (a souvenir from a trip to London). I blew out a recording of it and submitted it to your library or archive. Hopefully it makes someone happy!
If you ever want a longer, louder or different variation on the police-whistle sound, I'm happy to oblige. Although I can only make the recordings when the house is empty! For an item only three inches long, it makes a LOT of noise! I've only ever blown it at full-strength twice in my life. Once when I bought it, and once at an empty railroad station when nobody was around, and it's absolutely deafening!
Oh yeah. I can also provide sounds of Air-Raid/Civil Defense Sirens, desk-bells, typewriters and old-fashioned sewing-machines if anyone wants that...
I have re-uploaded the police whistle
