hello there everyone.
i've just made my very first "serious" song and like to put it on the market. is there a good place for a begginer composer to publish stuff like that? and are there any steps i should take prior to publishing it? all i've done is finished the project and enter basic info (author and genre).
thanks a lot in advance!
p.s.:i know this is FREE sound and i will keep adding free stuff but i'd also like to make some money on the side
Hello a_guy_1
Freesound is a sound database, but it is also more than that: it is an active, knowledgeable and friendly community. - so your question is well placed.
I would say Bandcamp is a good place, as it seems to be more suited for those wanting to sell their music than Soundcloud. I have not been to Bandcamp for a longtime, but used to be "no sale no fee" - you would only be charged a fee on the music that you actually sell.
You should, of course, also have a Soundcloud account and post stuff there - even if only short demos.
Soundcloud seems to be the main music site.
In addition there are specialized libraries that hold what is called "stock music" - this is pre-made music that movie / game / advert producers can buy to add to their project immediately.
I know such sites exist, although at the moment I cannot provide you any addresses - you will have to search those yourself. They should be easy enough to find.
The key to sucess in these sites is to tag your music very well, so it will come up on searches. In addition to style/genre, add tempo, duration and consider adding the (main) instruments and must indicate if contains vocals or instrumental only.
If anyone else can add any advie please do so.
Especially those with some experience in commercializing their own music, as a_guy_1 is now trying to do.
