Hi there,
I have been on this site for a while but never really looked here, I guess this is an intro post (couldn't see an intro thread), so hello. Call me Nick, I wrote a pretty massive intro on my profile page so go look there if you are really interested.
Anyway thanks for this site, it's a great source of inspiration and I love listening to peoples creations. I prefer to make my own sounds as that's what gives me my own sound, so I don't use other samples in my dance music apart from my own.
You can download stuff i made on freesound or on these sites;

I thought you guys would like to have a look at this comp (link below), even if you don't enter the contest you can try out your skills at making movie sfx and / or a soundtrack. I found this comp through remix comps website, maybe you dance heads might like that one too... anyway thanks and nice to meet you.

Hi Nick
It's unfortunate that I'm the only person to reply (latently) to your introduction.
Anyway, welcome to the community!
Thank you for the links, I'll check out the remix comps tomorrow when i've got a bit more time to browse. Also, very nice descriptive personal story on your profile, that's worth commemorating.
Cheers
Just checked out all the links you provided
Love your music on soundcloud, the most recent track is superbly composed. Very nice mix of techouse and IDM, love it.
I'm very grateful for you sharing the Hollywood Sound Design competition, I will be preparing an entry for this competition for sure.
Cheers dude!

Thanks will do!
@Headphaze Yeh thaat comp is a cracker, I had no idea how involved making sfx for videos was, looks like your good to go; http://freesound.org/people/Headphaze/packs/12701/. I look forward to your entry! Thanks for checking out my SoundCloud too!
@djnicke
After downloading the 2 minute video, I realised that although I am fully capable of designing for the piece, it will take way too much time to get in a decent state. A two minute section like that would take months to fully create in the studio, I just don't have that kind of 'spare' time right now.
Unfortunately, I won't be entering this one, it's too demanding for the reward. Thanks for sharing though.
p.s. if you're interested, I'm currently working on volume 2 of Robotics samples, follow my profile to get updates on uploads.

Also, I agree with you. The scene is very heavy, lots of stuff going on. I heard a few of the other entries, and quite possibly due to the reasons you mentioned, many of them sounded like they were made as an afterthought. No offense to any contributors.
Sounds like the zip was corrupt, or your unpackaging program malfunctioned. You should get two files: a .mov and a .wav
Actually, some of the entries are very good, most are lacking though. The most recent addition to the page (at the time of writing this) I found was impressive.

7zip is the only one I use. It's fine. I'm not going to partake in it. But thanks!
Ok that will be your issue then, you need to try unpacking with another program if 7Z does not work right. I used to use 7zip when I was windows based, and I remember it being a little bit dodgy with some compression settings.
Weird, I had no issue unzipping it.
You are right about lots going on, in that 2 mins there is literally stuff happening between frames. A lot harder than I thought it would be, dunno if I'll get an entry in time but still fun to have a play.
I can't imagine how long a whole movie would take.

I know, we're past the stage of attempt for the purpose of entering the competition.
This issue you face is very curious and I cannot wrap my head around why this is happening, it's bothering me.
