I have insomnia and I am in need of some music to help me get to a deep sleep. The VA gave me a sound machine but it just has like crickets, waves, waterfalls (which as any guy will tell you, makes you want to pee) not something that I need at night.
So my challenge is this, I would like someone to come up with something that will help us out, I know I'm not alone in this fight but it seems that no one has ever come up with anything good out there. If there is anyone who can help. I have been looking all over this site as well as the net and the average length is about 2 min. I would like to have something longer, the machine I use loops automatically on which ever track I am playing. I have searched meditation, sleep, deep sleep, etc.. and I can only find something on here that is about 20 sec long.
Thank you for looking and possibly helping.
Hello reduce69
This is a potentially interesting request.
For two reasons.
1 - because I think it is a request where any sounds or music that we can provide could be really very useful to someone. - provided they work, of course...
2 - ... and this is the other reason why this request is so interesting: we do nit know exactly what will work. So some creativity and experimentation will be needed.
I will give it a go and see if I can make something that will be effective for you.
I am also going to post in the forum where we normally post challenges to the community, with a link to this post.
Lets see if anyone comes up with something you find useful.
What I would ask is that you let us know if each of the sounds or music provided works or not.
Ticking clock sound is the most common, calming one, because subconsciously reminds on mother's heartbeat, what we first heard, when we were in the womb. There are also: rain drops, calm wind blows, buddhist chants...but at the other hand some people find these sounds disturbing. There are so many calming synthetic space pads. Just hints.
What used to work was thunderstorms, but then I got used to the sound. It was like listening to the same song over and over for weeks, right now I am listening to "soothing sleep sounds". It worked for the first night, but the problem that I have is that the sounds I listen to are recorded so high in volume that I have it down as far as it will go and I put a shirt on top of the little speaker and it is still almost too loud. The sound machine that the VA gave me is the Sound Oasis Bluetooth Sound Therapy System. I like it that it sounds ok and I can connect via bluetooth, but especially the micro SD card system. When I use the sd card it will loop the sounds over and over unlike the bluetooth where once the sound is over it is over.
I am interested into seeing what you can come up with.
Thank you for the help.
Hello reduced69
I meant to reply sooner, but have been really busy with work.
there are a some existing sounds at Freesound that I would like you to try:
https://freesound.org/people/daveincamas/sounds/128512/
https://freesound.org/people/klankbeeld/sounds/399369/
https://freesound.org/people/Kyster/sounds/102832/
https://freesound.org/people/risto_alcinov/sounds/371259/
First - sounds are in different formats: mp3, flac, wav
Need to know which of these you can load into your device.
(so we know what formats we can supply to you)
Second - For the sounds you can load, please evaluate each sound in relation to level.
Too loud / good / too quiet.
What level would you set your device to if using this sound?
(so we know what level to aim for)
Third - Evaluate effectiveness, for each of the sounds you can load to your device.
I think distant traffic noise is a good starting point for 'go to sleep' sounds.
(why? because it works for me...)
Do these sounds work for you?
If not, is it because traffic noise simply does not work or because there are other sounds in the recording that distract you?
Don't give up if the first couple of attempts don't work. We will eventually find some sounds that help you!
Thanks

Dear Freesounders,
I have discussed with reduce69 and, apparently, the sounds provided have been useful.
If I could request your assistance, please, to record and upload DISTANT TRAFFIC sounds.
These are the requierments:
- must be coded in mp3 format - reduce69 will not be able to play them in his equipment otherwise
- min lenght 10 mins, preferably much longer. I believe 30-45 min will be good.
- Avoid other sounds in the recording (close voices, car horns, birds). My suggestion is that the ideal recording would probably be of night-time traffic on a busy main road. This should eliminate all the spurious undesirable sounds I have identified above.
Please post here with a link to your uploaded sounds.
Many thanks
