Hi all!
The past few days I'm having trouble browsing for sounds. Audio preview doesn't manage to load the sounds and when I download a sound it fails to do so. The internet connection I am using is pretty fast and I've never had any trouble with the website before. Is it just me?
Yeah, I've been here for awhile. Don't really check in much anymore, but I have noticed a few times when I've went to Freesound its laggy and takes forever to load. It randomly does this, I'm not sure why. But know it should go away after not too long. IF it does then I'd say try a different browser, refresh you're internet, or just ask again saying how long it hasn't been loading for.
Same problem its Random i dont believe its to do with your browser more likely their servers not up to scratch to handle the traffic
The most likely thing to cause slow and/or impossible downloads is internet, if you have a low-speed network, it would greatly hinder your downloadability. It may also be your device, if you have a low-end, old, or full device, it may not be able to handle downloading anything. As most of Freesound's millions of users don't have any problems, I can assure you that it has to be something on your end.
Please feel free to pm me with any further questions.
-Sincerely

I'm an IT specialist of 20 years i can assure you the cause is nothing to do with my 500mb fiber internet or my computer. From my experience theses random issues with Freesounds website i would say are to do with traffic loads and also the capacity of their servers
Ok. Sounds like it. Kinda afraid to offer any more suggestions now, but It could be distance from the servers as well. But it's likely traffic as you said, just strange I haven't ever experienced it.

I don't do much up/down loading, so never been a problem for me, but have noticed many sluggish days when browsing Sounds and Forum, so one way or another I'd reckon the Servers are sometimes stretched or a system update needs debugging.
Go to the "People" tab and see how many users are logged on. It might correspond to response times, in which case choose a time when fewer users are on-line to do your heavy duty lifting. On the other hand it might be these low traffic times when system maintenance takes place. (Of course I appreciate that 4AM European time might not be convenient for some.)
A friendly System Admin might give us more insight into server loading here.
Wibby.

The same problem here. My internet connection bandwidth should be around 200 MB/s and at the moment my download speed seems to be hovering between 100 and 300 KB/s. It has been like that for few months already. For me it also takes a short while for the entire website to load.
Hi everyone,
Download speeds are low, but we're making infrastructure changes that should make them faster. We already improved Freesound speed significantly in the last 2 weeks, although sometimes (specially at peak hours) it is still quite slow. We'll let you know if we have specific news to share, but things should be improving in the coming weeks.
Thanks for your understanding
Some downloads work for me (at rather low speeds though), others such as this here https://freesound.org/people/Nox_Sound/packs/31372/ always time out. I hope Freesound team succeeds in solving the issue.
It takes about 30 seconds to load any page on the site.
I personally don't care about download speeds, so much as being able to browse the site.
Still, lets not forget its donation funded, so they clearly can't afford high end hosting.
My hunch though, is that sire is really suboptimal for database access, which causes many of the long page loading times (rather than just bandwidth).
If you need any help with this, feel free to drop me a message and I'd be happy to donate some time. Probably can't fix all the issues, but I'd be surprised if I couldn't help make the site a lot more responsive on the same server setup.
