Hey. I made an mp4 video of my sound and converted it to FLAC (using the cloudconvert website) and it didn't work. Why is this?
Hey there
Could you tell me exactly what happened when you attempted to upload the sound?
It's hard to tell what the issue is without more info, but you could convert to .wav instead and try that. It might be something to do with the way 'cloudconvert' processes and encodes FLACs. Or it might just have been a glitch in our processing stage which happens from time to time.
You replied swiftly, thanks. I'll give you a detailed description of my problem.
It was November 10th, I believe, and I wanted to make my own sound, so I recorded a video of me drawing (I was making a pencil drawing sound). Next, I converted it to .flac using cloudconvert, a free conversion website. After that, I went back to freesound and added a file, and uploaded it. When it was finished, a red colored text appeared, and it said: "File Format Not Supported". Please note that I cautiously read the Supported formats before doing so. I don't know whether it's cloudconvert or freesound, but please try to look into the problem and fix it. Thank you.
I tried converting it to .wav, like you said (this time, I used freeconvert), and it did the same thing.
Hmm okay, that's odd. I have no clue what's going wrong right now.
We have some options though to figure this out...
What software are you using to create the video? Can you choose to export audio only? That would be the first option, but I suspect you're using a mobile device which would make this tricky.
Usually to strip audio from a video file we would use a "de-mux" capable application, there are many that do it, but i'm not sure about free ones. If you tell me what platform you're on, I can give you some advice on how to do this extracting audio directly for free without a 3rd party website.
The third option is to just share/send me the .wav audio file so I can take a look at why it's giving this "not supported" message; there are a few factors that come into play here.
Lastly, sending me the video would allow me to de-mux the audio/video for you, but this isn't the ideal solution.
Let me know what you want to do
Best,
Sam
Okay, sir. I'll give you some more details.
I'm using my phone's (Samsung Galaxy Mission) video camera to record it, because I don't have a program that can record me as an mp3 file. But, you can suggest to me a program that does recordings in only audio, and not video. That would be good.
I do have a stop motion program called Stop Motion Studio Pro, though, that lets me make voice recordings, but I don't know how to copy the sound effects to my audio downloads section.
I heard in the descriptions that people recorded sounds with those expensive, movie development mics, but I only have $167 bucks on me in cash, and they cost thousands sometimes.
I could send you the audio file, and you could fix it for me, I only need to know HOW I do that.
Oddly enough, my brother did almost the same thing, only he got his sound from YouTube, downloaded it as mp4, cut it, and converted it to mp3.
It's basically the same thing.
Yeah.
Could you explain how I can send you my sound?
Okay, so if you'd like to continue using your mobile device for recording then you might be better off getting yourself a cheap plug-on microphone like this: https://amzn.to/3Df2Vfz
It's a mono condenser mic that's good for voice and sound effects.
Your Android device should already have a built in audio recorder app, but you can choose one from the following list: https://www.rev.com/blog/best-voice-recorder-apps-for-android
I would still like to investigate this upload issue though, so if you upload the file to a file-sharing site like wetransfer.com or Google Drive and then send me the link in a private message i'll look into it for you. Upload the .wav version of the file.

Put ".wav" at the end of the file name, then try to upload it to freesound ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tdxh7yDyeFg
Thanks for sharing. I can see exactly what the issue is now.
The file is missing the format extension on the end so the processing system is not recognising it as an audio file.
It should be "Drawing with a pencil.WAV"
Try adding it to the file name at the end then it should upload.
OH MY GOD THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME! I'll go and remake the sound, and make sure it says .WAV at the end!
Check out my latest sound!

Guys! My sound just got its first download! I am very happy about this! I couldn't have done it without your help!
I wont be using this forun anymore, because of that. To chat with me, just send me a message!
Best wishes for you,

Hey! Check it out! The freesound website works on the 3ds web browser! I wrote my message you are currently reading in the 3ds web browser
I'm gonna go see if it works on the Wii internet channel!
I do have a stop motion program called Stop Motion Studio Pro, though, that lets me make voice recordings, but I don't know how to copy the sound effects to my audio downloads section.
I think I know how to get audio from Stop Motion Studio Pro.
You need to make a movie with your recorded sound(s) (without any original Stop Motion Studio Official sounds) and choose export, and "Save as", which will save it to the desired storage spot as mp4. Next, you need to convert the movie to an mp3, flac, wav, or any of the supported freesound audio formats. There you go.
