I have a question for older 'uploaders' (= people that are uploading for a longer time)
At the moment I have 77 uploads and on those uploads I have around 580 downloads, which makes an average of about 7.5 download per file.
I wondered if that was around the general average here, or would it be way lower then the general average.
Mind you, I'm not looking for fame here. I just do it for the fun and as respect for freesound. I take some samples here and give others. Beside that, I'm happy that other users can use something I make. Although I was surprised that the most downloaded files of me are musical loops, which isn't really the goal of freesound as I understood it.
Anyway, I'm just curious, and I will continue to upload here

I have on average 331 downloads per sample, ranging from 1 download to 4000 downloads, over 17 uploaded sounds, in total 5634 downloads.
Thanks for your reply !
I actualy didn't even think that there where ringtone downloaders.
Anyway, all samples that I upload are made by myself because I needed them for my personal use, so I'm happy if I can share them here.
Don't want to discuss that star voting system, i actualy think it's useless, but that's just my personal opinion.
Gonna upload a new sample pack now....

Ive noticed very strange patterns for downloads as well, especially if I have 5 or 6 variations in a sample pack, the ORIGINAL sample seems to be the one everyone continues to download. My assumption is this particular sample is coming up in searches on the topic as the 'Other samples you may like' area.
I dont have any specific suggestions from Bram right now, but i have long thought that the recommendations engine following every query could be expanded out somewhat. Usually the top 2 or 3 suggestions are very close, but the relevency completely dwindles off after that in many cases.
The only other thing I notice is that there is no accounting what other people are looking for. I would have thought there were lots of people interested in train noises (for instance), but perhaps people who like trains do not think to come here looking for train noises. Meanwhile, crowd noises and bar-room ambiance are gobbled up like its going out of style.
In the end, I just capture everything I can get my hands on, and let the downloaders figure out what they are looking for.
Hi
it is obvious that the database has grown to a point in which, whithout a powerful (google-like) search engine, it is simply impossible for a downloader to fine-tune any searches. This is a long-awaited feature that Fresound badly needs, hopefully FS 2 will provide it, just be patient

I use these beautiful sounds on my website. I think you are a wonderful bunch of people for uploading them in the first place. The MP3 files are the only ones that work on that.....x
