I was not aware how far one sound can go around here...I was browsing soundbible.com when I was surprised to come across this: http://soundbible.com/1464-Western-Ricochet.html I don't mind at all, and I was happy that mkoenig liked my sound enough to put it up on his site. I was really surprised, though, to see that it made 2,246 downloads there! Thank you, mkoenig!
I hope he reads this post because I want to know if there is any way to sign up at his site so I can put my sounds there directly.
Apparently MANY of my sounds got farther on his site that they did here, although my most popular ones are doing pretty good here already.
http://soundbible.com/1409-Many-Punches.html - 3939 downloads
http://soundbible.com/1418-Sharp-Punch.html - 6768 downloads
http://soundbible.com/1414-Batman-Punch.html - 3864 downloads
edit: I don't know how exactly freesound would go about this, but in light of mkoenig's great site and large donations towards freesound, I think that soundbible.com deserves a permanent link/banner on the freesound homepage.
do I get it right, that soundbible.com is "just" doing links to soundfiles he downloaded from sites like freesound?
nevertheless: nice
It appears that he just downloaded them from freesound, renamed them if it better described them, and then put them up on his site. I have no problem with this, seeing as he has attributed the original creators of the sounds.
Hummm,
I am actually QUITE unhappy with this: he is making money directly off giving other people's sounds as downloads. The adds on that page ARE giving him money!
AT LEAST there should be a link back to the original freesound sound page.

We get about 10-20 request a day "see the link on the top right pf every page".
Try it for yourself. Users submit request when they can't find the sound they are looking for. They are often searching for obscure terms like "Western Ricochet"
It is my job to find those sounds for them and add them to our sound encyclopedia. I follow all rules as far as I can see in accordance to Creative Commons and Public Domain works.
If someone would like their sounds removed, then please tell me and I'll remove their sound effect and recreate it or grab it from another creative commons work project.
If someone would like more of their content added please tell me, we do everything by hand.
We do not link to the sound file we download it, convert it into a .wav, and an .mp3 then hand type a description. We give the author the proper credit and the file is noted with the correct license type.
Respectfully
Mike
mkoenig,
your pages do not link to the original freesound sound, that's a bit sad.
you changed the license of the sound: freesound still uses creative commons sampling+ which you have changed to attribution 3.0...
do you have a list of the sounds that were taken from freesound?

I'll add a direct link to the page on freesound not a problem. So I guess it's freesound that get's the credit and not the artist?
I've since added a new license category named Sampling Plus that sound was uploaded prior to the creation of that category.
I am at work now. I'll try to do this during my lunch break, or tonight when I get home.
Assuming that is done then everything is correct right?
I would not have made a donation if I thought there was an issue.
I hate it when other sites put my sounds on their site. That is unlawful. So I am thinking about it.
I have chosen to freesound.
Everyone can use my sounds. I love it. But not for posting on another site.
In the 'sound cloud' discussion I have already expressed my concern.
What does user 'pepe2' with 10000 files? And what about the 46,966 files FS2 downloaded?. That's OUR / YOURE database.
Maybe it's a great idea to aks them what the do with it.
Mkoenig; 'if you have files of me on your site I want you to delete these immediately.
I hope you understand me as a normal contrebuter.I believe in community. I do not believe in commerce. Thank you..
OK...the link to url option is now created in my system and the file originally referenced
http://soundbible.com/1464-Western-Ricochet.html as well as the other 3 sounds have valid links.
Thank you CGEffex, im glad that made you happy. With only 1,000 or so sounds to download each sound gets downloaded and used more often.
No klankbeeld you are not on there just checked.
Have any of you actually read the Sampling Plus License?
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/
* To sample, mash-up, or otherwise creatively transform this work for commercial or noncommercial purposes.
* To perform, display, and distribute copies of this whole work for noncommercial purposes (e.g., file-sharing or noncommercial webcasting).
freesound.org has 98,800 files, we only have 1,500 sounds in our database, and most of those I've created myself or taken from public domain resources. Very few sounds are from this site. You can do the math, chances are your sounds are not in there.
The site soundbible.com operated ad free for the first year, I am not fortunate enough to get grants from Google.
If you are going to complain at least take the time to read our about page
http://soundbible.com/about.php
and read the news. see who all we've helped...for free mind you.
http://soundbible.com/news.php
in addition we've donated $700 to this project in the last 2 years. These donations come from my personal checking account, not some corporate slush fund.
Sounds you've uploaded here are on a commercial iphone application, some guy somewhere is selling. No one complains about that.

My name is even on the demo example image.
http://media.freesound.org/files/itunes/appstore3.jpg
Im not complaining, i've read and understand the license.
If you want to add, delete, modify, or just see if your sound is listed then please email me directly

Ok, hope everyone has a good year, if you need me you have my email, I am no longer getting updates from this thread.
beste Bram,
houd je dit even in de gaten. dit scheef ik gisten, maar het zit in een lang verhaal;
-------
What does user 'pepe2' with 10000 files? And what about the 46,966 files FS2 downloaded?

groetjes
"Mkoenig; 'if you have files of me on your site I want you to delete these immediately."
same for any samples of mine please.
If you have my sounds, please keep it, and you can add all of them on the CC license like on Freesound. I understand your idea, but it should be better to ask people before adding their sounds
