I have been scouring the net looking for a few sounds and have not yet found anything I am completely happy with. The sounds I am looking for are all likely to be difficult to find. I'm trying to get a tank sound effect, The rumbling engine and the squeaky tracks as they move over terrain. I am also looking for a good marching sound, all the ones i've found sound like some guy walking up a gravel driveway. Lastly Im trying to find a good helicopter flyover. I found one that I can fade in and out but it's obvious that ive done it. Maybe some distant machine gun sounds would be helpful as well. Does anyone know where I might be able to acquire such sounds?
On a side note, can you guys believe how many sites are selling wav files that don't even compare to the ones here? It's nuts.
As for the marching, you can quite easily solve that by duplicating the sound of one guy walking on gravel. You just record the same sound on different tracks, bounce them into one and then repeat the whole procedure. Like this, you can create a whole army marching. You can also play with the pitch and timing, to create some variety.
This may help. It's a bulldozer I recorded last summer. Even tho it's backing up with the beeping and moving around it's almost a two minute sample so you may get something out of it hopefully.
Alright cool. yeah I don't know much about editing sounds, what kind of program would i use for the marching sound? currently all i have at my disposal on my windows machine is audacity and a shareware version of fruity loops. On my linux machine im not sure ill have to look. Thanks for the tractor sound also sonic. Ill grab it tomarrow when i have more time to play around with it.
I use Kristal audio engine (free for non-commercial use) and it is pretty straightforward to operate. Find it at http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/
